DO NOT go and see When a Stranger Calls...

Ben Franklin (Reviewer) posted this on Saturday, 13th May 2006, 10:50

Watched a preview last week and it is f***ing diabolical. Imagine the first 10mins of Scream, stretched out to 1 and half hours. It is one of the worst films I`ve seen for a long time.

The whole thing is just paper thin; I can`t believe they had the gaul to base a film entirely on one urban legend, when it could have been better done in the space of five mins. I`ve seen some short film urban legends (I think Universal filmed a few adaptations before) which were done a helluva lot better than this.

If this is the best Simon West can come up with, he should retire now.

Avoid! ;)

Giggity giggity!

It looked like a scream rip off from the trailers, thanks for the advice.

In my student life time I`ve seen 6 short films based on this exact plot. I honestly don`t see the attraction of the story, there is nowhere to go with it (except how it was used in Scream).

I will avoid, cheers ;)

Remake of a 70`s movie. Saw the begining once many years ago and scared the crap out of me, mainly as it was one of those times your parents are out and you take advantage to stay up and watch the stuf you arent allowed to. And i must have been about 10 or 12. So i guess Scream ripped off the idea.

Scream is a film that turns all horror cliches on it`s head. Scream was actually an important film for the horror genre (despite the fact I enjoy it more for the comedy). It`s not about ripping off, it`s about tweaking ;)

I was really responding to Floyds post where he says the trailer made it look like a Scream ripoff. :-)

On a totally seperate subject, we were wondering in the office the other day how long it would be until someone tried to do a remake of Star Wars. What do you think? Not until GL is dead, but within our lifetime?

Glen A Larson tried in 1978. Battlestar Galactica.

Honestly? I don`t think it will happen. You see, Star Wars isn`t just a film, it has such dense mythology and within our lifetime I don`t see it dying off to a degree that a remake could be allowed. More sequels and prequels? Yes, but not an actual remake of the 1977 film.

At least I`m not the only one who thinks When a Stranger Calls is sh*te. I saw it last weekend and thankfully didn`t pay to see it. It`s the worst film I`ve seen in yonks and that`s really saying something.

I just saw Down in the Valley and enjoyed that. It at least wiped my mind of When a Gobsh*te Calls...

:D
