Criterion discs repackaged as R2 discs.

Bought both Armageddon SE and The Rock SE and was pleasantly surprised to see they were basically the same as the expensive R1 Criterions.
Are there any other R2 discs which are essentially the Criterion R1 releases?
I love Criterion but find them pretty expensive.
Cheers
Kozza.

`A Night to Remember` feature from Carlton is the same as the extras are on the `other` side of the disc.
Also `Seven Samurai` and `Yojimbo` from BFI are the same - however the Criterion edition of `Solaris` has different extras - but the film is the same as on the Artifical Eye release.

R2: Beastie Boys Anthology (brilliant if you like the music) is identical, it even says Criterion Collection on the cover but is region 2.

It`s also one of the most technically impressive discs I`ve *ever* seen.

When I think about there are a few more, `Time Bandits` is the same but even has a new inteview on the R2 edition. and `Sparticus` - but I don`t remember the extras.

If you like Criterion discs and like The Long Good Friday, get the region 2 disc which has buckets of extras, is anamorphically enhanced and cheaper too.

cheers for the suggestions..may well go for spartacus.
anil, i was tempted by the long good friday but noticed it was 4:3 aspect ratio which put me off. was this film shot in academy standard then?
as criterion always release films in the correct aspect ratio i guess it must be.

just checked on the long good friday.
on some sites it says it is presented in full frame i.e. 4:3...on others it says 1.85:1.
any of you guys got the disc to confirm this one way or the other?
