Try using the TMPGEnc software from www.tmpgenc.com, and printing out the instructions for converting the files from www.vcdhelper.com (that`s if you can access their site!). I am trying this software out at the moment and am a bit confused on how to work out which format to use, eg PAL or NTSC. I have a AVI movie in SMR format which claims to be in 60fps and 352x288 frame size, can you tell me if this can be converted straight into PAL and at what fps?.

Martin

Thanx for the site`s i`ll give them a try - the only film i converted had the mpg file extension and i used Easy cd creator from adaptec . I just dragged and dropped the file within their video menu and it converted it to vcd format ( i.e 2 tracks ).Nice and easy and although it was ntsc it played great on the Aiwa 370.The problem i have is movies encoded with Divx ( mpeg4 ) since easy cd creator doesn`t recongise the file as valid -- look like i`ll have to de compress the suckers ; split them then convert the files :o((

TMPGEnc will convert DIVX AVI`s to MPEG-1 format for you, without the need to split the files.

Hope this helps

Martin.

I`ve done quite a few "back ups" of DVD`s, it all works brilliantly, even allowing me to play the VCD`s on my wharfdale 750 (classic).
Claddvd to rip Vob to HDD
Flaskmpeg to convert to AVI.
VirtualDub to compress AC3 audio.
TMPenc to produce VCD compliant Mpeg1
Nero5 to burn back up copies.
They also play in my Napa Dav309 VCD player.

How longs that take though?

Clad takes about 15-20 minutes.
flask takes 4-6 hours depending on CPU and movie.
Virtualdub takes up to 2 hours.
Tmpenc will take about 90 min per hour of movies.
nero takes no time at all.
I`m in the habit of setting things off and going to bed or work, so to me, it takes no time at all.
The results are well worth it.

Have you tried converting a Divx file back to avi -- Tmpenc does the job but you need some processing power ( i just need a 900 mhz Duron and motherboard )
Can Clad convert the above :-))
