Cheapest English Cover R1 DVDs???

Mercury In Glass (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 24th October 2002, 11:46

I was wondering if anyone knew the cheapest place to obtain R1 DVDs of English language films, which are not Canadian versions with French written all over the cover.

The only sites which I know sell American R1 DVDs are Movietyme and Amazon.com. However Movietyme seem to price all their DVDs at £17.99 for the customs, who always do me when I order from Amazon.com. All the other sites such as Play, Future Entertainment, CD-Wow, etc. seem to stock Canadian R1 DVDs, or whatever can be sourced for the cheapest price in the case of CD-Wow.

I usually stick to the same sites when ordering my R1 DVDs, but it seems time for me to move on, since I am fed up of Fiction Pulpeuse or L`Extraterrestre DVDs, which were advertised with normal English covers when ordered them.

I do not mind French writing on a French language DVD from France, but do not see why there should be French writing on English Language DVDs from Hollywood. I also wonder what has been removed from the DVD in order to incorporate the extra French audio track, which I will never ever listen to.

due to the polictical siuation in Canadian with the french speaking quebec/montreal states everything must be in both languages (even cans of coke have to be printed in 2 langs.) i have ordered from dvdimport.com dvdplanet.com dvdsoon.com and so far not recieved french writting on the covers.. Ok they take a few days longer but are often cheaper. Check the prices between sites as they vary and some do free delivery to UK.( i also havent been stung by customs.) If ordering by Credit card from a NON USA VISA Card you might have to fax a copy of your statement to them to prove you own the card and where you live(a pain i know but once you have done this no further probs.) To get around customs on amazon products click gift wrap icon and you can tell them not to put a sticker on the product. this should not rumble the customs officals... happy buying

Most of the R2 discs seem to have a German/Spanish/French/Polish audio track so I wouldn`t worry too much about this

No, most are canadian sourced but do not necessarily have dual language covers, out of the past 15 discs i`ve ordered from them only 1 has had a dual language cover (jay and silent bob) the rest have been totally english. I think it`s hit or miss really...
