Just like to say the 5.1 sound through my philips 9616 Tv rocks my b*lls off!

2 hours of none stop gun play, glad my neighbours went on holiday 2 days before it popped through my letter box:)

Yeah, watched this on Saturday - like having Hueys and Sandys in your front room dropping napalm on you.

And not full of in your face sentimental cr*p at all.

The DD5.1 menu is pretty cool too, especially as those choppers fly into the screen:)

We watched BHD on Saturday night and We were soldiers on Sunday night, (we don`t get out much!) I thought that We were soldiers was the better of the two. BHD was just so much "How gory is that?" I enjoyed it, but don`t feel the need to see it again. We were soldiers had all the banging and shouting and a reasonably engaging narrative,I think Mel Gibson played it just right, far more likely I`ll give this another viewing.
A passing thought, I think it`s a good thing that the makers of both these films accept that the U.S. can make foreign policy mistakes, and that generally it`s young GI`s who cop the bill.
Again, We were soldiers at least gave a nod to the fact that the NVA was made up of people not just proto corpse.
Yeah 5.1 is good to:P

Well, they`re good movies but I wouldn`t take too much away from them.

Both have books which are better. Both dramatise events about horrendously complex socio and geo-politics.

I figure, at least they`re making movies about these things. Then I fear people take them literally. Then I realise the moviemakers think they are reaching the masses, who will never read the books.

I don`t recall seeing many British (or any other Natioanlity) movies admitting their own mistakes.

that`s because we aren`t as gung-ho about going to war. Black hawk down only happened because they went and tried to get these two people by themselves without the aid of the UN. America has the technology but other countries have better trained soldiers e.g. SAS.

WWS sounds like a worthwhile purchase. I was wondering, how does Mel work in the "the English are scum" angle into this one.

he doesnt thats partially why its so good.

The deleted scenes are good too.

General Westmorland Tells Gibsons character after the battle.
"We will run the little bastards home"

Gibson replies
"No we wont run the little bastards home sir........They are HOME"

i thought the first deleted scene was funny & should have been in the final cut, it adds some background on the characters.
