New Plasma! had to tell someone!

I know this isn`t really a Bargain, but then again it is!! I know this appears sad but after years of watching everything on a square, curved, ancient 4:3 set (Ferguson) We decided to invest in the new Panasonic PX70 37" Plasma. Bought from our local big Panasonic dealer at £900 with the table top stand thrown in, I have to say that this thing is the mutts wotsits! Picture from every source, whether it be from aerial, NTL or inbuilt freeview is stunning and Dvd`s even through a cheapie scart are awesome due to the built in upscaler! I can heartily recommend it! Roger

Thanks to everyone and I know i`m not the last or the first to be chuffed when upgrading but it had become a bit of a source of laughter in work when people heard of the number of Dvd`s I had that I`d never watched purely because I didn`t want to `spoil` them before getting a really big screen set! But me best mate Bob was getting even more excited than me about it, as he has been waiting to make the best choice. Arrangements are being made for him and his wife to view the set and looks like he`ll be getting the 42" version. If anyone is wondering about the Plasma/Lcd debate then I have to say that I have been distinctly unimpressed with even some of the big names in Lcd, and what swayed it for me was the fact that The Panny had rave reviews for its off-air and freeview reception and it`s superb performance on `normal` dvd`s as opposed to HD-Dvd`s and Blu-ray! We had it Friday night, set it up Saturday and watched "Harry Potter" on ITV, and looked at a broadcast picture which was utterly faultless and appeared to be HD in quality! Although we`d had an old set i`ve spent the last two years looking at various plasma`s and Lcd`s in shops and friends homes, and this is the best i`ve seen. Roger

Nice one, Plasmas are really good value at the moment, as most people are going for lcd, Theres even some good hd light projected aka rear projection ones around that are really good sets. Havnt decide which format to go for myself yet,

Rear pro. "shudders" Does that include the likes of the Samsung DLPs? I know I read some favourable reviews a while back, but probably they were less than half the price of similarly sized plasma sets then. With plummeting prices on plasma and lcd I suppose they have lost that advantage. Would you say obsolete technology???

Sorry to rub this in but it`s not really a bargain when you can get the 42" PX70 for £50 more from Play, delivered!

Don`t knock the rear projection until you`re tried it :)

I`ve had a Sagem HD-D45 for over a year. It`s a huge DLP rear projection set. It isn`t particularly deep and has a terrific picture for every source. My Dad just got a 42" Panny Viera which is a great set but the controller and menu system is a horror to use. The glass on the Panny is also horribly reflective. The Sagem upscales its freeview source into the best `TV` picture I`ve seen on a set and watching a DVD produces an outstanding picture that really feels like a cinema experience because of the way the light is handled.

It does suffer a bit from Rainbow effect, but after 3 months, you really don`t notice it at all.

The beauty in the Sagem is the number of connectors which current LCD and Plasma sets have only just caught up with. 2 x HDMI, Component, 3 Scart and a VGA. I watch stuff from my laptop on it and its so easy to connect up. I haven`t even hooked anything that`s HD up to it yet - bloody itching to see it! (the shop demo was incredible).

Oh and anyone getting a new telly, go to John Lewis. They`ll price match the high street (sometimes the web) and I got a 5 year parts and labour warranty! Sweet!.
