Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ3 Digital Camera 5Mpix, 6X opt, OIS £89

This compact 5 mega pixel camera features a 37-222mm equivalent zoom (excellent for a compact camera) and an Optical Image Stabilizer to minimize camera shake effects (particularly useful at the long end of the zoom range)

The budget-priced Panasonic Lumix DMCLZ3 digital camera packs in 5 megapixel effective resolution, an ample 2 inch LCD screen, a powerful 6x optical zoom (37-222mm equivalent) and an Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS), for quality and clarity not normally associated with an entry-level compact camera.

From John Lewis

Go though Quidco for cash back.

The LZ3 includes a high-quality Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens with an advanced MEGA OIS for sharp images when shooting with a shaky hand (zoomed in at distance) or even at night. It's AF time has been speeded up from the LZ2 model, by adopting a 1-point high speed AF option and AF assist lamp is newly incorporated.

The LZ3 also has enhanced scene options, including a high sensitivity mode that allows shooting at ISO 1600. This is realized by the new pixel-mixed readout method of the CCD, which even allows VGA-size movie capture. Even more powerful zooming is possible with the Extra Optical Zoom (allowing 7.5x zoom in 3 megapixel mode) and the Venus Engine Plus saves energy for extended battery life, while maintaining quick response times and high picture quality.

This sounds pretty interesting. Anyone here used one?

I`ve had a look at the review that niteowl posted and it seems pretty good.

The only thing i would say is that there seem to be a few places selling it for around the £90 mark (dabs have it for £94).

The review says the battery life is good, and it also links to a memory card available from Amazon. The link indicates that the 1GB card costs £60, but when you click on it, it appears to be selling for £5.40.

I`m pretty much sold. Does anyone here know of any lawful impediment why i should not buy this? Speak now or forever hold your peace.

How about the fact that it has no microphone...(and speakers)..so video clips captured by this camera will be without sound.

Review states
" The LZ3 can record video at 640 x 480 at 30fps without sound"

That`s one good reason unless you never capture video clips with your digital camera.

Hi, I have this camera and it does not have sound on video (I feel if you want decent quality video you really should buy a camcorder) The other features 6xOptical zoom at 5megapixel and 7.5 x Optical zoom at 3 megapixel plus image stablisation make it a real bargain. The Amazon Bytestor 1GB sd cards work fine in it by the way I bought 2 so hope this helps.
