Hello to all....this is my first post...

Heard this from a reliable source - my mom.. Apparently if you stop subscribing sky but keep the box.. you can still get sky tv... your phone line does not need to be connected.. anyone out there who still has a box and card pls try this and post for the others.

Thx Sid

Yeah, you can pick up "free-to-air" channels (NOTE: not the same as freeview) but that`s it.

Yeah it works as a free view box. but you would need to have been with them for a year to be able to keep your box for free (and dish).

I once had it for free when my friend gave me his extra box as i had a dish in the house i was renting. he was paying sky an extra £10 a month for multi room. We got away with it for 3 months, then they cottoned on!!

I now subscribe with the basic package, and once the year is up i may cancel and just keep the box as a free view box.

But as it has been stated on a different thread sky may be giving sky + box sets away free some time in 2006 to all new and existing customers. Which would be a nice bonus!!

You get most of the same channels as you would with freeview. i know for a fact it doesnt give you E4 though.

There is a difference between "Free-to-View" channels and "Free-to-Air" channels. FTA channels are broadcast in the clear and do not require a subscription or any sort of viewing card to be able to watch them. FTV channels are ones which do not require a subscription but do require a viewing card to decrypt them. BBC channels are FTA but ITV, Channel 4, five, etc are FTV.

If you got your Sky equipment free and have been a subscriber for 12 months or more you can cancel your sub but keep your viewing card to enable you to watch the FTV channels.
