Lars von Trier`s The Kindom/Riget

HMV (online and high street) have the 2-disc set of this for £10.99. It`s the mini-series that the abomination that is `Kingdom Hospital` is based on. (Bit like the difference between Ringu and The Ring!) It`s priced at anything up to £30 elsewhere.

I think you`re forgetting Garth Marenghi`s 1980s series Darkplace which both The Kingdom and Kingdom Hospital shamelessly ripped-off. It was quite literally buried when the spineless management at Channel 4 got scared that such a dark, dangerous and innovative programme would be too damn much for Joe Public`s feeble mind to take. Maybe there will be a DVD someday...

...if the BBFC has the guts to pass it!

OMG I forgot about that! Maybe Garth just go a little too close to the truth eh? ;)

Darkplace I don`t remember that but I love the original of the Kingdom, and actually don`t mind Kingdom Hospital at all. Must check it out.

Mavrik,

I`ve been really enjoying Kingdom Hospital - about the first King screen adaptation I`ve seen that`s captured the feel of a King story.
I get the feeling that it`s more of an "inspired by" rather than a remake.
What`s the original like then?

Thanks Mavrik.

I watched this on BBC2 some years ago.

Well worth £10.99 for about 5 hours original programming.

Well I`ve watched the first 4 parts. I only saw pt1 of Kingdom Hospital, and it would appear that King lifted the characters and even the dialogue almost wholesale from the original, without capturing the humour or spookiness!!

For £10.99 it`s a bargain :D

Garth Marenghi`s 1980s series Darkplace is of course a spoof, but we all knew that didn`t we.

If dismissing Marenghi`s unsettling masterpiece as a mere "spoof" helps you to sleep at night, keep believing that. After two decades of `progress`, some people still find Darkplace too damn HOT to handle!
