MINOLTA DIMAGE Z1 - I`ve Been after one for ages - Its only £229! now from PC World

I have been looking for this camera for some time and now i have ordered one from PC WORLD . It seems its on offer but Dixons have the same camera for £269 even though they are the same company. Heres the exact model and code from PC World.

Model - MINOLTA DIMAGE Z1
Product Code - 969257

By the way anyone got one of these , are they any good as the reviews are brilliant.

Happy Xmas

I looked at this a while ago but plumped for the Fuji s5000 which is very similarly specced and I am very happy with it.

The thing which made me pay the extra £50 (at the time) for the Fuji was the build quality, the Z1 just seemed very flimsy in comparison and it is obvious the function is following form in this instance

However, as far as I know, an S5000 will still cost you £300 minimum now, plus the cost of a decent sized xd card assuming you dont have one, so I think at £229, the Z1 looks like a winner

Unless you can find the S5000 at a simlar price, I would grab it, the reviews I read put naff all between the two in terms of performance

regards

I got the same deal on Comet (inc free delivery) but by time I could post the price went back up. I guess someone made a mistake (perhaps it`s the Jan sale price) or they overstocked and needed to improve their cash flow.

Most reviews, as you say, are brilliant but a couple of reviews have made some serious criticisms (see http://dcresource.com/reviews/minolta/dimage_z1-review/index.shtml). The biggest worry being purple fringing. But http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/Z1/Z1A.HTM is much more complementary.

I haven`t had much chance to try out the camera but so far I`m very pleased. I took some night pictures up Oxford St. using auto everything and did get some strong purple fringing at full size but I don`t think it will be noticable at enprint (6"x4") size. Also I didn`t try the white balance solution suggested in the dcresource link.

Has anyone actually received one of these Minolta Z1 cameras from PCW yet ?

I ordered one on 22rd Dec 2003 from the PCW website
PCW debited my card the next day.
I didnt expect to get it before Xmas but hopefully during the week after.

When nothing arrived before Mon 5th Jan, I called them to be told that it would be with me by the end of the week. Nothing came that week
I rang them again on Friday 9th and after a 15 min wait was told that they had plenty in stock but were delayed because of the Xmas rush and it would be the middle of this week at the earliest
I have since received an email today telling me that they expect to ship it next week and apologising for the delay.
As you can guess I am not pleased.

I also notice that the price has gone up to £264.49, I wonder are they hoping that I will cancel ? I WONT !

Are PCW always like this ?

£285 at Pixmainia for the Fuji. Have used them (Minolta X20 for £145), pleased with service, but Fuji not in stock until 22 Jan.
