Loewe 32" TV and DVD bargain

timj (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 27th November 2003, 15:11

Recently bought a 32" Loewe Aventos (100Hz, PIP with 2 tuners) and Loewe Xelos DVD player for £849 from a branch of Tamworth Co-op . This was an excellent deal as the TV has had excellent reviews at rrp of £1150 and the cheapest price I found on the net for JUST the TV was about £950-£1000. The DVD was approx £250-£350 when available
Very pleased with them, the sound and picture are excellent and once you`ve had Picture In Picture you`ll wonder how you ever managed without it. Oh, and the identical remote controls are probably the best around and seem to work at all angles in my room apart from pointing at the curtains. They are very user friendly (you shouldn`t even need the instruction books to set most things up), with 4 programmable hot keys, and also work virtually every function of my Panasonic VCR, which was a bonus. Also the DVD can receive it commands via the TV so could be hidden away if req`d
Loewe products carry 2yrs warranty that shouldn`t be needed as I read (after I bought mine) that the TV retail trade voted them the most reliable TV`s around
The engineer who installed mine said that his branch had only sold one set. That is probably because most people haven`t heard of them and go in looking for the usual brands that they know
Only niggles I have are that the DVD is an older model that doesn`t play JPEGs
and Loewe offer their sets in black or silver but the Co-op only had silver
but these are very minor points

Is it a widescreen tv? I remember Lowe having good writeups in the Which mag and only selected shops have them.

yes it is widescreen but I wouldn`t call the Co-op "select" as I had to show the sales assistant how to set it up

Loewe (said Lurvu) Are trying to branch out from the traditional "select" shops to more mainstream shops much to the anoyance of the more traditional "select" shop owners. ie me. We like having a good thing to ourselves.

It is a high end set and the sales person should know how to set it up and what it can do. Has anyone told you that the Aventos can control your lighting?

In my opinion Loewe are going down the wrong route. They demand that I give a high level of service and I am happy to do that but then they give it to the box shifters who know bugger all about the product. >:(

Rant over.

All the best,

The 42%er.

Is this the one?

I`ve tried two local Superstore branches but they don`t seem to have it and think its a regional thing. Also, they don`t even have Loewe listed on their online electrical page :/

Must be a regional offer, just been to the Co-op in Newcastle with my VISA card and they`ve got them, but they`re still £1149, not including a dvd. As a result I`ve returned home empty handed :(

They`re beautiful looking sets too.

Depends on what part of Germany you are from ;)

I will stand by Lurvu as that is how the Loewe rep who visits us says it and how Loewe sales in glasgow say it. At the end of the day I am not that bothered how poeple say it as long as they buy it.

All the best,

I`ll second that request for the details of the store, as I am in the market for a 32" telly at the mo, and the Loewe comes out top in the recent Which report (infront of me now!)

Failing that, anyone know where I can get a good price on either the Philips 32PW9308/05 or the Sony KV-32FX68U? (the next two of the best buys!)

Cheers guys
