bargains from Amazon.ca

Sorry if anyone has already flagged these up, but I have just ordered the following region one dvds at what I think are brilliant prices:

Best in Show (Widescreen) - CDN$ 19.99

Waiting for Guffman - CDN$ 19.98

Jackass: The Movie (Widescreen Special Collector`s Edition - CDN$ 25.89 (Release date: March 25)

Red Dragon (Widescreen Director`s Edition) [2 Discs] - CDN$ 27.29 (Release date: April 1)

Bowling for Columbine [Special Edition] [IMPORT] - CDN$ 28.04 (Release date: April 22)

Total (including shipping, which I think took about 10 days last time I ordered from Amazon.ca) - CDN$141.13.

One British pound is worth almost CDN$2.50 so that means I`ve got this little bundle of new dvds for £60.50! Fingers crossed that I don`t get stung by Customs!

Apologies in advance for any of you whose dvd-buying addiction I am fuelling by posting this thread. ;-)

*** also need to point out that I`ve only used the Canadian version of Amazon once but it was cheap and didn`t let me down. If anyone else has had bad experiences with them, then please do let the rest of us know.

The only time I used them, I got stung by customs.(was only £1 over the limt!) Apart from this, they did have a very good service other wise.
Also with that order, you do realise that they wont send it till 22nd April. I find it best to order single items rather than wait. For big orders like this, I tend to use dvdsoon and make sure I have spent enough for free shipping and then split the shipment so they only charge me $1.6 shipping per dvd instead of the normal $4

I`ve used them a lot: I buy a fair few R1 indie movies that aren`t available on Play, etc, and Amazon.ca are normally much cheaper than Amazon.com. And they`ve been giving me free DHL upgrades on all my orders (which means I can track my dvd as it crosses the Atlantic and gets ever closer... How sad is that?). I`ve not had any Customs charges from them so far, and several of my packages have been over the £18 limit.

4 DVD`s ordered January 5th, 2 still outstanding.
Customer services kept saying " wait another business week please " and after over 10 weeks have accepted they might not arrive, new couriered delivery date around April 19.
Although in fairness the first 2 arrived in less than 2 weeks.
Its why I always split larger orders, no duty and you have half a chance of getting at least part of the order.
Oh well, only another month to wait.
P.

Yep, I did realise that I wouldn`t get that order until the last part of it is ready - I`m just not in any huge rush and the Canadian Amazon`s prices were at least £2 or £3 cheaper than Play or CD Wow, so even if I do get stung by Customs, it`s no big deal. It seems to be a bit of a gamble rather than having any strict value limits, so if I have to pay the tax this time, well, the saving I made on my last order more or less balances it out.

Regardless, I`m still saving money over buying these dvds from the retailers I normally use. The bulk of my order is still region one dvds which I will have (a) cheaper and (b) sooner than their UK release dates, so I`m happy enough.

Thanks for pointing out their `send it all together` default policy for those who weren`t aware of it, though.

Its cheaper to order from dvdsoon and they mark all of the films they send out as $12 cad which is around £5 so customs will not stop them

They start charging if you order upwards of £18. They charge on everything upwards of this limit. I think it`s 17.5% (VAT), so that for the £8 you`re over, plus the Royal Mail will con you £3.70ish for processing.

Very rarely is it people get charged though.

PS
IS IT A WISE IDEA FOR EVERYONE TO STATE SO PUBLICLY THAT DVDSOON MARK EVERYTHING AS $12CAD? Don`t want them to get stung as it was great receiving the likes of the Die Hard Trilogy marked as £5.50ish!

For the UK customs charges are:

3.5% Import Duty
17.5% VAT
+ admin fee (£3.95 for Royal Mail, £1.85 for DHL and upto £15 for other carriers)
