RE: Pye PRV645 DVD recorder (Philips 610 `re-work`) £99.97 in ASDA - Macrovision free?

Was that recording from EXT2 or CAM1 socket? From brief recollection when I tried a protected tape the system just remained in PAUSE mode and refused to record. Thats with the Multi Region Hack enabled.

Thanks,
Andy

RE: Pye PRV645 DVD recorder (Philips 610 `re-work`) £99.97 in ADSA

Well this info helped sway me and sort out my replacement for a faulty DUAL DVRW1.

Having an RGB input should be a given on any DVD recorder and it seems mad that many don`t. Atleast the PYE does have.

The menu system seems straight forward enough, and they have thought about cooling as well by including a fan in the unit, my DUAL got rather hot when in use and lead to its downfall. It something that should be born in mind when buying, that small units need loads of ventilation so you don`t often gain much but the small form factor UNLESS active cooling is included.

For £99.97 this seems like a very reasonable unit. Be intersted to know what the outstanding issue with the 610 firmware were so I can know what to look out for as potential issues on the PYE and even how everyone gets round them.

Thanks,
Andy

RE: ASDA models

They also have the Pye PRV645 now reduced to £99.97. Appears to be based on the Phillips 610, from others comments, and Pye is a brand of Phillips.

The Cyberhome doesn`t have RGB input as far as I could tell, where as the PYE does, which won it for me. It was a replacement for the DUAL unit which just overheated and failed to work after a few months. The PYE has a fan in the back as well so cooling is better controlled.

The only three issues I have with it at present are:

a) NO 1hr recording mode, lowest is 2hr, but has a useful 2.5Hr mode.
b) The remote sensor on the unit is very sensitive to stray IR. Especially from the IR ports of laptops, or atleast mine is. Just kept repeating the last command I issued from the remote every few minutes, so initially it kept turning on and off!! Disabling the IR on the laptops has resolved the problem.
c) Can`t handle RCE discs for the wrong region even after being made multi region.

But as has been said before ASDA have a great returns policy so if this unit plays up it will go back and something else will take its place, but for me I doubt it will be the Cyberhome model they currently have.

RE: PIE PRV645 DVD Recorder Multi Region any help???

Cheers, yeah, as long as you can press the sequence quick enough from the Blue Button onwards AND remember to press the PLAY button at the end it seems to work.

To note for others the numbers appear on the screen then wrap round so you only see the last few digits you entered , don`t worry this is the way it works!

RE: PIE PRV645 DVD Recorder Multi Region any help???

Apparently it is essentially a Philips 610 machine and the same hack for that works

http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/full/philips610.asp

I haven`t got a grip of the speed needed to do this hack yet, after pressing the Play Button it usually just starts changing the Tuner channels as I type the numbers in.
Guess I`m doing something wrong with the instructions.
Hints/Tips from anyone would be appreciated.

RE: Britannia - -look and it aint too bad

As before they only charge the advertised price to get you in - magazines thats 17.99 + P&P - Web is £15.99 + p&p

Scream box set was NOT advertised but by searching found it and added it to selection, same for Fantasia 2000 and other titles I wanted.
Yep you can save BIG money but then take care to buy carefully once joined.
If you buy all 6 in the first 6 months you are free to go then as well - otherwise you stay a member for 2 years....

My bill was around £19 for the items I got inc P&P....

[added]
What I did think abaout later was that I did ensure that the FIRST title I chose was a `normal` title - ie not a box set - so if the billing system runs off first title - which it seems to do - it doesn`t get flagged up or cost more.
So maybe best to go for 1 title and 3 box set to make less likely to be rejected. Does take ages for initial delivery and then any you order....

RE: Britannia - -look and it aint too bad

Either look on the website - and save yourself £2 in process - and order that way - use the SEARCH facility to find the ones you want rather than pick from the screen,

OR ask someone who has the brochure in front of them like I might have tomorrow.....

Can even get a bonus if you introduce someone , more extra DVD`s for free :-)

I was only charged the 15.99 plus postage and had the Scream Box set and Fantasia 2000 - not sure you will be able to get all the box sets you are looking for in one go however...

RE: Britannia

Still need to pay the P&P to get them TO you - the return label doesn`t help that sadly, or have I missed a dodge here....

RE: Where can I get the CHEAP JAMES BOND COLLECTION!!

Virgin 2 for £30
Play247 - £14.99 each

Assuming you want UK copies

Also take look at Blockbuster sale some in thier - NEW - not previewed - from £9.98

PC World - some titles £14.97

RE: Costco is cheap for DVDs

Those prices BEFORE or AFTER VAT??

RE: Lecson Upgrade still multiregion!!

Just rang Local Leeds store and told to just turn up and ask loads in stock at present..

Glad to hear they haven`t messed around with menus or controls that are a benefit to us customers :-)

RE: Britannia

Just keep eye out for the cheaper ones that come on board.

Having a young family helps - Chorlton and Wheelies and Dangermouse @ 9.99 full price still count.

Then go for the £15.99 ones as well - keeps the spend down and your `profits` up.

Have also heard can take full price CD`s to fulfil commitment - or even VHS tapes just to get yourself into the clear.

Yeah the shipping is a bit step and takes ages - but a good selection up front offsets some of the pain...

RE: World is not enough

Yeah BlockBuster Video stores
Just got one for £9.98!!!

NOT ex-rental either

RE: Any lecson owners -

Charlies Angels R1 - plays fine in multi region mode - no need to change anything on handset or put a specific disc in first.

Lecson appears to be RCE friendly :-)

RE: Lecson DVD900 Macrovision Disable

on my 2nd one of these.

Not due to a problem with the unit but with the player itself.

Signal levels were all wrong so the unit couldn`t handle it. Should have realised as the picture sometimes flashed especially on dark to light changes in films like Chicken Run.

Anyway to cut to the chase - box has been fixed and just got 2nd Mac Master and it is brilliant. Works a treat. The guys are great. Does what it says it does - yet to try it on my Digital set top box....
