RE: Ipods

Hey,
I got an iPod before xmas & I love it. Its a fantastic piece of hardware, but there are certain limitations which I found annoying as a PC user:
1- Most Pc`s dont come with a firewire port, which happens to be the only cable you get with the iPod. Firewire cards are about 45euro. You could opt for a USB2 cable but thats about 25euro and only works with Windows XP, not ME or 98. Also, Firewire cards can only work with Windows 98 Second Ed. and upwards.
2- iTunes (which is meant to be fantastic software) doesnt work on anything below Win XP. Others are left with Musicmatch jukebox, which you may have to download if you buy an iPod after last november... And to be honest , its not great.
3- Your mp3s must be perfectly tagged. This is just some advice for other pernickidy people like me as the iPod sorts everything by ID3 tags.
4- You cant use the newest version of the firmware for the iPod on anything below XP.

But despite these failings of the windows support, once you get everything on the iPod it works like a dream. It is also quite simply the sexiest looking piece of machinery ever created.

RE: Anyone got a famous film location near them?

My god all of these replys are so lame. Sorry if i sound like an asshole but its just that...well I live near the "D-Day Landing" beach where Saving Private Ryan was filmed and everywhere else mentioned on this post just seem timid in comparison. Ah well...

Best Music Line Up in Europe EVER!!!!!!

Just to anyone who missed the Witnness Festival in Dublin last weekend, you missed the best music line up in Europe ever! There were so many great bands, here`s a few of them: Prodigy, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Jimmy Eat World, No Doubt, Wilt, Hoobastank, Chemical Bro`s, Basement Jaxx, Oasis, Less Than Jake. Talk about brilliant! The words FCUKING BRILLIANT come to mind. Hopefully there`ll be just as good a line up next year but I doubt it..... Even still though, it was a weekend for the history books, anyone who went can truly say that!

And This One Time, At Band Camp.....

Hey does anybody know where i can buy a Tall Oaks Band Camp T-Shirt (from American Pie)??? Not the ACTUAL t-shirt that Allyson Hannigan wears but the same t-shirt design. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

RE: DUP DVD software

I dunno about the program ur talking about (or vcd`s, Svcd is more my line) but i`d guess it was something to to with the quality setting. I use DVD2SVCD to make copies of my DVD`s (and the odd rental) onto SVCD`s. Unfortunatly my Sony player wont play SVCD`s though so im stuck until i get a new DVD player (which will hopefully be soon).
Oh i also know a way to fool the DVD player into thinking that its playing a VCD when its actually playing an MPEG2 file. I dont know if u`ll use this but here it goes:
1. Get the program: TMPGEnc.
2. Get DVD2SVCD if u want (dont if ur only making a qucik test)
3. Convert a small portion of the DVD to MPEG2 format
4. U should now go into TMPGEnc and go to File>Mpeg Tools
5. Then in the simple multiplex tab just enter your file and select the output file. Then in the "type" box change it to Mpeg1 (videocd) and click run.
6. This could take any where from 30 seconds to 15 mins (or longer) but when u have the file just burn it using ur normal program( i use nero)to VCD and ignore any warnings u get.

Hope ive been some help to u (though i doubt it as i havnt answered ur question) im going to bed now cos im tired bye

Lord of the Rings DVD

This is what I would really like to see on the Fellowship of the Ring DVD.
Disclaimer: I know that all this stuff will never be on the discs but its my "dream" Lord of the Rings DVD. Oh yeah, feel free to add your own ideas.

Disc 1

-THX Certified
-Widescreen (retaining original aspect ratio)
-Theatrical & Directors cut incorporating the 30mins extra footage via seamless branching
-Dolby Digital 6.1 and DTS 6.1 sountracks**
-Directors Commentary
-A specially made THX demo for Lord of the Rings with really cool sound (demo quality) and is at least 1min long
-Fully Animated Menus (that change each time like Star Wars) with Dolby Digital surround sound

** If the DTS sound track is to be included, it may not be physically possible to fit it and the DD soundtrack on one disc so the actual film might have have to be spread over 2 discs instead of one, but if this is so, an intermission could be included (with music) much like the 3 disc R1 Pearl Harbour DVD

Disc 2 (Bonus Disc)

-Fully Animated Menus with DD surround sound
-1 hour (or longer) monster behind the scenes, fly on the wall documentary
-For those people who wish NOT to know about how the special effects were made (so as to retain the magic of the film), a decent length featurette about the progression of the characters personalities could be included
-Featurettes on: Costumes, Sets, Special Effects, Characters, Miniatures etc.
-Featurette on how they digitally shrunk the actors
-Interview with Peter Jackson on how he undertook this film and his thoughts on it
-Featurettes on the main areas and towns and how they were made: Hobbiton, Bree, Rivendell, Mines of Moria, Lothlorien and Rauros Falls
-Actor profiles and interviews with them about their characters
-Entire Website on the Disc
-Featurette on JRR Tolkien
-Featurette on the history of Middle Earth and the Hobbit
-Storyboards for the film
-Teaser and Theatrical Trailers (with surround sound)

RE: Gamecube Release!!!

Yeah but Capcom are bringing out 5 Resident Evil games on GC worldwide in 2002!
:)

Gamecube Release!!!

Just for anyone interested, Gamecube will be released on May 3rd 2002. It`ll be £150stg or €250. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Also there`ll be a good few games on launch day incl. Luigi`s Mansion, Wave Race: Blue Storm, Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, Tony Hawk`s Pro Skater 3, FIFA: Road to World Cup and Sonic Adventure 2!!!

Lip Sync Problems with Phantom Menace DVD

On my menace dvd the audio does not appear to be synched to the video. I dont think its the fault of my dvd players because ive tried it on both my sony and my pc dvd players with the same problems. Im not sure whether its a problem with the dvd mastering or what but George says in the commentry that nearly all the audio had to be re-recorded because of stage noises etc. Does anybody know if this was apparent in the cinema or even the vhs versions of the film?

RE: Most impressive overall Original Score?

Oh god, how could I forget Danny Elfmans "March of the Dead" for Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness

RE: Most impressive overall Original Score?

The Rocks score by Hans Zimmer, and his score for Gladiator.
Also John Willams score for the Patriot. And the score for the Episode 1 (the choir). And the score for the Matrix (yes there is one). And many, many others.....

R1 Compatability with Sony Trintron Wega TV`s

Does anyone know that if my DVD player is made region free, will the R1 DVDs be in B+W or have skipping and other "bad" things on the TV. The TV is very new but I dont know if it supports NTSC signal. I dont want to spend 60 quid on something that doesn`t work properly.

RE: Has anyone ever seen AntiTrust??

My brother saw it and said it was crap, but then again, he liked Junior......
Doubt you`ll get a 5.1 system for under £200 but Creative Labs have a good system with decoder and 5 speakers + subwoofer for £250. Its meant for a Pc but I dont think there would be much difference between that and a more expensive system.

Gladiator R2 + R1 Easter Eggs

Does anyone know if its possible to get the Chicken Run Gladiator Spoof Trailer on the R2 Gladiator Disc? I know its in the R1 version, maybe it was removed on R2?

RE: Which film should i rent this weekend????

Rent Arlington Road. Highly recommended.

Terminator 2:Ultimate Edition - Region 2
