RE: U2 Elevation

Got mine from play247 this morning, picture and sound both excellent,(the only other live concert dvds i have are metallica and ac\dc, the sound quality on u2 is way better), the actual concert is amazing, a good mix of new and older stuff, only complaint is that its in 4/3 rather than widescreen.

Marantz dv4100 and rce

I have a marantz dv4100 which was set to multiregion when i bought it from those nice chaps at richer sounds and has played every disc i have tried without any problems (r1,r2,r4), the only thing I havent tried are r1 rce discs. Has anyone tried any rce discs in a marantz player ?

Galaxy Quest going cheap at HMV

RE: Where can I get Seven (2 Disc) for very cheap?

you can get the 2 disc region 2 version at play247 for £15.99 including post.

Cheepies at www.game.uk.com

As above, a few dvds going at 6.99, true romance, the negotiator and a few others, look under offers.

RE: No sound on disc menu screens

I have noticed that most menu screens are in pro logic rather than 5.1 even though the sound is coming from your digital out, might have something to do with it

RE: Does anyone have a Grundig gdv 520 or know of any reviews?

Hi, I had one of the sytems and ended up returning it because of the faulty subwoofer which was a real pain in the butt.
Aside from that it was a fair system for the money, picture quality is ok but there is no rgb out and the remote is a bit basic.
The player has onboard dolby decoding(no dts decoding although it does have dts stream output),whlist the amp is a simple six channel affair with no extra inputs for other sources, and produces a noticeable backround hiss.
The player is easily made multi region with a handset hack although it locked up a few times when set to region 0, setting the region to the same as the disc I was playing seemed to cure it.
for £300 it is a cheap way to get into home cinema but it does have its limits,If i was you i would check out the richersounds website, eeven if you have to spend a little more it would be worth it.

RE: Grundig GDV-520

You are not the only one who has had this problem, i had it and a few others still have it.
My solution was to take the whole system back and get a refund.
Dont let currys\dixons fob you off it seems to be a design fault as the repair guy in the shop tested quite a few of them for my benifit.
That noise done my head in.
Grundig wont answer any emails regarding this system and tell you to
direct any questions to currys.
At the time the assistant manager who i was dealing with couldnt authorize a refund and had to ring head office who duly did.

RE: Grundig GDV520 Hack

Power up the machine from cold, make sure no disc is in it,press menu then 1,6,7 you can then select your region or press mute for any region.

RE: Back by popular demand - what players have you all got then ?

Marantz dv3100

looks good after returning grundig poo

RE: Grundig GDV520 subwoofer problem

Hi all, the guy in the repair shop agreed with me that the subwoofer made a strange noise as did all the other ones in the shop and there was nothing i could do,so to cut a long story short, I got a full refund from currys and want to richer sounds instead.take a look in the retailer reviews for a longer explanation.

Couldnt believe it, I actually got a refund from currys

Hi, I bought a grundig home theatre kit (gdv520) from my local currys last month,a deal to good to be true,£350 for dvd&dolby 5.1 and so it was apart from the subwoofer which made a strange and annoying noise when going into standby mode.
I took the subwoofer back to the shop and left it with the repair guy who agreed with me but also informed me that all the other ones in the shop done the same thing. So off i went to see the assistant manager who naturally couldnt authorise a refund/exchange and would have to ring head office the next day.
Called to currys the next day and to my astonishment was offered a full refund, I almost fell over and certainly didnt hang around to find out why.
Scooted off to richer sounds and got a nice marantz dv3100, multiregion out of the box for £200 and Videologic dts system is in the post.
Moral of the story, never try to do anything on the cheap.

Although i feel a bit cheated that i never got a row out of the currys people.

RE: Grundig GDV520 subwoofer problem

hive tried plugging it in all over the house using different audio sources and different cables, same results.
I have left it back at the shop to see what they come up with.

Grundig GDV520 subwoofer problem

Hi there, I recently bought a grundig gdv520 home cinema kit which i am happy with apart from a strange noise coming from the subwoofer, during a quiet spot in a film the subwoofer seems to go into standby mode, there is a led on the back of the box which goes from yellow to red.
While the led is changing colour, a process taking 5 seconds or so a strange electrical noise comes from it and then stops once the led has changed to red.
Its bloody annoying, every time there is a lenghty dilogue section in a film I hear this noise.
Anyone have any ideas, comments before i lug the thing back to the shop??

TIA bigroot
took subwoofer back to shop today, they have it on test, it will be interesting to see what excuses they come up with.
