Newbie Question re Goodmans 285DPL

Hi there, I am quite ne to this home cinema stuff so forgive me if I am going over previously stated stuff, I could`nt find anything in the FAQ so I guess this is my best shot.
I have a Goodmans 285DPL tv and the Wharfdale 750 DVD player from Tescos.
My problem is as follows, I can`t play any discs that are in the NTSC format. Regional encoding is not a problem as I have used the mutli region hack and played back a region 1 DVD perfectly on my portable TV. I have also tried a region 0 NTSC disc but this also fails to work. Whenever I try to switch display modes through the Wharfdale the screen seems to lose its vertical hold and/or go black and white which leads me to beleive the problem lies with the Goodmans 285DPL TV. The TV manual states that the set has been locked to PAL mode but surely the Wharfdale player should get around this thanks to the PAL option it has in the display menu?
Failing that does anyone know of a way to unlock the Goddmans 285DPL so that an NTSC sign can be displayed as it seems unlikely that Goodmans would manufacture a completely different TV for sale in Europe and America?
Thanks in advance,
Kris.

RE: Newbie question again - PAL/NTSC and Region codes etc.

I`m not too sure what is supposed to happen here. I have tried switching the output on the Wharfdale DVD to PAL but in doing so the image onscreen goes into flicker central. The TV has 2 scart sockets but the onscreen menu`s dont really have many options. The manual states that the TV has been permanently set to PAL, yet there is what looks like an option regarding this in the onscreen menus, unfortunately this option is locked out. It almost seems as if there should be some way to unlock this and allow the tv to funcion like any other. I mean, if the player will work fine on my ancient portable tv without any hassle other than the multi region hack then surely there is something I can do with a much newer and better set, perhaps some engineers code or something to unlock the ability to display an NTSC signal?

RE: Newbie question again - PAL/NTSC and Region codes etc.

Yeah, i tried that and it just goes into black and white flicker central. I have even tried hooking it up to my portable and switching it to PAL and then swapping the cables around but it doesn`t like it all. It must be something ot do woth my TV. If anyone out there knows of the Goodmans 285DPL tv can somehow be unlocked to accept an NTSC signal I would gretly appeciate it if they could let me know.

RE: Newbie question again - PAL/NTSC and Region codes etc.

We have the same setup, A Goodmans 285DPL and the Wharfdale 750. When trying to play NTSC signal disks it causes a problem as the TV is locked to PAL. Although the Wharfdale lets you alter the output doing so still screws up the picture which goes black and white and loses it`s vertical hold. Does anyone out there know of a way to get around this?
