I have never bought a pirate DVD, but am open minded and I fail to see how these can be inferior to the original if they have been directly ripped from an original DVD. Surely it`s like copying a CD, it`s a digital format meaning there is no loss of quality i.e. copying a Playstation game. As I see it, it would probably be only the packaging that`s inferior. The only time the DVD would likely to be of crap quality would be if you bought a film such as The Phantom Menace which has not yet been released on DVD yet, so has therefore been ripped from lower quality source. However, the main reason I`ve not bought them is that I think £9 is a rip-off, when you can pick most originals up for around £10-£12 if you are prepared to shop around.

I got Jackie Brown from dvdoo Tricky and the subtitles turn off fine. You have no choice but to start with them. You can however switch them of in the subtitles menu on my player after it`s started.

Cheap Case of Wine from Virgin

Anyway you don`t need an Egg card to buy it - I used my Barclaycard. At least it should keep the bread knife happy whilst you`re blowing loads of cash on films.

Just ordered Fight Club for £15.99 - bargain (£2 cheaper than play, £8 cheaper than Amazon). Also heard the Region 1 is better than the R2 version as well (don`t know if this is true). All prices look very good, hope the delivery is up to scratch.

I know you want freestanding but I got some 4 corner shelves for £4.99 each from Wilkos - they`ve got some even cheaper ones to (start at £2.49). When you sort the room out just stick some plants on them or something.

Hmmm Prisoner Cell Block H - that would be a 500 disc box set!!!! I`m not sure that would sell too well. I agree with Bottom & Young Ones. I`d also like to see `I`m Alan Partridge`.

It doesn`t play MP3 or CDR disks. The way I look at it is this - the DVD player which is a clone of Proline DVD 2000 costs £129 in Comet. An equivilent Sub-Woofer costs at least £100 in Richer Sounds, so that leaves £70 for the amp & surround speakers.

The picture quality is fine - prior to this I had a Logix 3000 and I would say the picture quality is better than that. For more info on the player check out www.comet.co.uk - they sell the Proline DVD 2000.

Presumably you mean the GDV-520 which is what the below text refers to.

I`ve had one for about the last 2 months. Got it when they were £349 from Dixons and still thought it was a good deal.

The player is a clone of the Proline DVD-2000, so that multi-region hack for that player works on this. The sound quality is awesome, although a few people on these forums have reported problems with the sub-woofer. However, I`ve found that if you intend to watch the films at high volumes the sub-woofer works fine. Overall, for the money though I reckon this is a really good deal as you are looking at around double the price for something similar elsewhere.

Grundig GDV520 - What a bargain

After briefly owning a s*** Logix 3000, I ended up going to Dixons (tossers) for a new player. I know we all hate them, but you can`t knock £349 for a full home theatre setup. It looks really smart too - all the other home theater speakers I`ve seen come in crappy black. Fair enough the actual player is pretty basic but when you think the 70W subwoofer itself must be worth at least £100 it shows what a bargain this whole setup is. I knew I was onto a good thing when I went to collect it - the box was the size of a fridge and took up the whole back seat of my car! I`ve had mine for nearly a month now and it`s the best thing I`ve ever bought. Check out http://www.dixons.co.uk for more info.
