RE: 40 lashes in the Sudan - opinions please?

so why is it ok to name a person Muhammed, presumably after the prophet, but its not ok to create an image of one? draw one, name a teddy after one?

Double standards if you ask me.

I imagine, but I don`t know, that some Islam states take a similar stance to early Christianity (and it may still exist in some Christian branches).

If you portray a prophet you emphasise their human rather than their divine nature.

I would draw the line at hiring Pinochet`s lawyer.

Lawyers occasionally represent unsavoury people. It`s the nature of that thing we call the justice system.

Did you hear that they have hired, or want to hire, General Pinochet`s lawyer who prevented his extradition?

I don`t see how that`s relevant?

RE: Breaking News - Bernard Manning RIP

Anyone who saw Manning on The Mrs Merton show would realise he certainly was racist.

Aren`t you tiring of all this slaughter? Don`t you think you could enter into a dialog, discuss your grievances and settle the problem amicably?

RE: POLL: worst ever song

What`s "wired for sound" doing in there?!

RE: Who Owns Which Fence?

When we bought our house the solictor told us we owned the fence where we could see the supports - don`t know whether it always works that way though.

Star Trek: First Contact is better than Serenity any day.

I`m sorry but that`s ridiculous - me and my 9 billion Firefly buddies are goin` to get you for that!

RE: Customising Myspace - any good "how to" guides?

Thanks all - Dr 42%.. that looks great (& kinda freaky).. now all I have to do is persuade my family to leave me alone for the weekend!

Customising Myspace - any good "how to" guides?

I`m a real beginner at all this but would like to find a good "how to" guide on customising my myspace (backgrounds, music etc etc).
Any suggestions much appreciated.

Sue even got into that thread and spat her dummy AND toys out of the reviewer pram.

I think Sue got into `that` thread because she was genuinely hurt. It`s all very well saying it isn`t online bullying (and anyway it doesn`t matter because they`re gone), but carrying on like this perpetuates the idea that as long as you don`t see it as bullying then it doesn`t matter how the `victim` feels. I`d have thought it should be the other way around?

Since when was this an `adult` site?

RE: Johnny Cash - Hurt

Personal Jesus?
That is a great cover - and usually when you love the original it`s difficult (for me anyway) to say something like that. He did a good cover of U2`s `one`; I liked the original but l actually prefer the cover in this case.

RE: Two More Regulars Have Signed Off Permanently

Did Bowfer really use the word `buffoon`..?

RE: Windows Vista Adviser Test

I was `advised` that elements of Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 may not work!

RE: Telewest - is it just me??

Is this the curse of NTL?!

POLL: I think the roof on my house is about to get blown away. Should I...

This post includes a poll. There`s a howling gale outside. Gave up on going to work as the train was taking so long to arrive (90 minutes late and counting).

RE: Celeb Big Bro racists ?

A real debate on racism in this country has been long overdue, although getting nearer over the last year, and I think this may well be the thing that triggers it.

I loathe BB, but if it`s managed to achieve this then perhaps it`s done some good?
I think this kind of bullying goes on all over the place and it`s been tolerated for far too long. If BB actually makes people realise that then I`ll give it some credit - not much mind you because I still think it`s s**t.

Why `blimey`?

Sorry - no offense meant. I guess I just didn`t see it as specifically US; isn`t Gibson conservative?

Anway, why does no one ever mention The Man Without A Face.. I mean I liked it (that`s my guilty secret out!).

Quite possibly the most stupid piece of editing-by ITV I`ve ever seen

No it`s not!

I`ve just watched the Railway Children (1972 version) and they edited out four scenes that I can remember. What the hell is wrong with them?!

Name that film (part 101)...

Couple of friends end up at their bosses place for the weekend and for some reason he`s dead but trhey have to convince everyone he`s still alive...

Whoot, any ideas?!

RE: Another foreign {alledged} rapist story

Quote:
what this person has alledged to have done, that we should protect his rights?

Yes I think we should. I`ll assume you meant HAS done rather than alleged (because if it`s only alleged then surely all of us agree his rights should be protected) - and even in those cases I`d say yes. Because the alternatives are to accept abuse, torture and god knows what else.

RE: Another foreign {alledged} rapist story

Quote:
Its is my strong belief that no one should have thier "human rights" respected or protected unless they uphold and respect others "human rights".

Upholding all peoples rights, no matter who they are, would be one of my definitions of a "civilised" society. Our ability to uphold these rights, no matter the provocation, should be regarded as a strength and not a weakness.

That`s twice now Batavia!

The Browning Version is one of my all time favourite films. Cheers mate.

RE: this week`s channel 5`s greatest ever films annoyance

I think it was "scary" rather than "horror" - which made for an interesting mix as we all have different ideas of what IS scary.
