RE: Philips 756 vs LG 3350

Thanks for the advice Jimbo.

On the multi standard TV issue, will a recent Philips (28W6615) do for R1 titles? It states on the Philips` spec sheet under TV standard that playback is `Multistandard (PAL/NTSC)`.

But given that I have both of those requirements, how do they compare on pic quality, and does the 756 have a quiet mechanism - the reason I returned my LG was it`s drive noise.

Philips 756 vs LG 3350

Does anyone have any experience of both these players?

I`m sick of waiting for my LG to be replaced, and Dabs are offering the 756 for £10 more.

How do they compare?

TIA.

Q about Philips players - esp. 756

Can somebody tell me if the new hack for the Philips players (specifically the 756) is unrestricted, not limited to 25 changes?

How does this machine compare (pic quality, transport noise) to the LG3350?

I`m looking at other players because I returned my LG with transport noise problems, and have been without a player for over a month - I MISS IT!. The Philips 756 is in stock, and at a similar price - any advice will be greatly appreciated.

RE: Panasonic SCHT80 DVD hack!!!

There is no non-hardware hack for this player - has to be a hardware mod.

RE: What RCE discs are currently Available

Dave,

what do you think of the movie, and do you think that a Thomas obsessed 2 1/2 year old would appreciate it?

Chris

RE: mp3 players

I agree about the Napa.

I bought one on its feature list, but both audio and video are of very poor quality.

Just about acceptable for use on the train, where the background mush is masked by the general noise!

Sony Multiregion

My friend wants to buy a Sony DAVS 300 set, and a Sony shop is telling him that the multiregion mod is a Sony one!

Am I correct in thinking that Sony do not make such a mod, and the `Sony` warranty will only be with that particular shop - not Sony itself?

PCs and Macrovision

Are PC DVD players (software) affected by Macrovision?

If so can it be disabled?

My graphics card has a TV out, so can I use this to record onto VHS?

Thanks

RE: Recordable dvd players coming out?

Philips claim that their version of recordable DVD (DVD+RW) will be compatible with all players.

The field does seem to be splintering into too many standards - DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW. Is there yet another market-place war brewing, or are they all going to be superceded by HD recording (TiVo etc.) ?

Have to wait and see!

RE: LG3350 now in Dabs top ten...

When you get your players, could you please try the hack and tell us the results.

Also could you tell us the firmware version.

Thanks

RE: Jimbo Can You help Me!

I just bought a Philips 28PW6615, and think it is fantastic. There is no comparison to my sister`s Sanyo, picture or sound wise.

Features:
Dolby Prologic
1200 page text memory - the most usable I`ve seen
half TV / half text display
3 SCARTS
dedicated centre speaker, so dialogue is really clear
etc.

Cost me £550 inc. cabinet

The only problem is it has just been discontinued, but luckily my local shop still has/had some! I think that it has been superceded by the 6315.

If you see one, I advise you give it a close look.

Chris

Philips TV help.

I`ve just bought a Philips 28PW6615 TV and need some help.

I`m very pleased with it, but one thing is really bugging me - the front panel has 5 lights(?) on it, but nowhere does it say what all of them are! They look like the layout on the current flat screen sets.

I presume one must be for the IR receiver, and one multifunctions between power on (green), IR signal receive (orange) and standby (red).

What do the others do?

Any help would soothe my tiny little brain.

RE: LG 3350 - Advice Needed!

Eggo, what firmware does your player use?

RE: Aiwa 370?

Jimbo, I can`t get into your site (ohh Matron!). Just dumps me to a Tripod signup page.

LG 3350 - Advice Needed!

Just before Xmas I received my player from Dabs. Fantastically prompt delivery - 1 week after a claimed 2-3.

I love most things about the machine - picture, sound, handset. I`ve tried the hack, and it seems to work (`code` appears at the right time) but I have not tested any R1 discs yet.

Now to my problem: there is quite a bit of mechanical noise when playing discs. I have notified Dabs, and they are arranging a new player for me, presumably from the new batch expected Feb. Whats worrying me are the posts about the newer players not being hackable. I really want to get rid of the noise, but I also don`t want to lose R1 playback - one of the main reasons for getting this player. This must also apply to people taking up LG`s replacement policy for the R2 Toy Story disc 3 problems.

Can anyone confirm that the new LGs are hackable, or is the solution to swap the drive mechanism or electronics between the machines - how easy is this, Jimbo or ItTroll ?

TIA.

Chris

RE: lg 3350e hack, does it work? i seem unable to get it to work.

When did you buy your player, where from, and what is your firmware?

It has been rumoured the LG has disabled the hack, this might be the proof!

Anyone thinking about getting their players replaced to play region 2 Toy Story disc 3 might want to reconsider!

RE: Q for anyone in the TV retail trade

OK! Stupidly worded question.

What I meant was what sort of discounts do retailers usually apply.

Q for anyone in the TV retail trade

I have been looking for a Philips TV that I have subsequently found has been discontinued. This made me made me wonder:

a: What generally happens to the remaining stocks ?
b: What happens to the display models ?

RE: dabs.com & LG 3350e

Just to put another point of view, I have never had any problems with my years of dealings with Dabs.

You must realise that a company like this is dependent on its suppliers. They seem to try to deal with any situation promptly, at least in my experience.

Chris

RE: Catchy Tunes Anyone?

The score to `Scent of a Woman` is probably my favorite.

32" Widescreens

I want to buy a TV as above, and have almost decided on the Philips 9616. One of my concerns is that this model is now `mature` and don`t want to buy (at full price anyway!) just as new models are being released.

Does anyone know anything about Philips` plans for new models?

Also, Panasonic has released the TX32PG50, has anyone heard how good this model is, or seen one?

Thanks

RE: 32

I can`t see the Philips model in the catalogue. Is this a new model?

RE: Anybody know where to buy an LG3350e?

Goldeneye, the `Walking with Dinosaurs` offer finished on 31/12/00

RE: Unlikely Title: LG3350 Problem!

The player makes a noise when seeking, but settles into a different whirring/rubbing noise when just playing. It is present at all times, but especially noticable in quiet scenes.

Looks like I`ll have to contact a relevant party then!

Probably have a huge problem getting a replacement, if necessary.

Anyone have any advice on who I should try first: Dabs or LG?

RE: Unlikely Title: LG3350 Problem!

I took delivery from Dabs on 22/12/00 and it was like this from then.

Unlikely Title: LG3350 Problem!

I think I have a problem with my otherwise great LG.

The drive unit is noisy, especially noticeable through quiet scenes. I have tried a number of discs - all the same. Sounds like something is rubbing in the DVD as it spins. I thought, from postings here and other sources, it would not be this way.

Has anyone else suffered from this, or am I being overly sensitive?

Are there new players coming from LG/Aiwa?

With the shortage of the above machines, does that mean that there are new and even better players just around the corner?

Methinks that a certain budding/new retailer may know something about it!

Any rumors guys?

RE: Videologic Digitheatre Home Cinema System

Take a look at the Creative range

The DTT3500 was well reviewed in Personal Computer World and is £180 (+vat)

RE: Region 1 vs Region 2 films

There is already a great site covering exactly this requirement:

http://www.rewind.org.uk/digitalera/

I got the link from ITTroll`s LG 3350 site.

RE: LG3350 Macro

Can anyone tell me who has guaranteed the Aiwa to be hackable.

Does this mean that the firmware is fixed in stone, or that Aiwa (LG?) has stated that every revision takes this into account.

Also, are there any firmware updates available for either the Aiwa or the LG?

Thanks
