RE: PSP.....Can you use older firmware on the newer consoles?

Hi, I have a uk bought non TA-082 PSP and I`m still on 2.01 UK firmware but would like to upgrade to 2.50 fw and then downgrade. Do I have to use UK fw for this? Also, where do I get hold of all of these versions of fw?
TIA

RE: Best guitar solo?

Incidentally, you can here the opening to Vinman`s Brew here.

RE: Best guitar solo?

Well, not really a solo, but the opening to Vinnie Moore`s Vinman`s Brew blows me away every time. Just wish I could play it. :B

I also love Joe Satriani`s finger tapping bit in Always With Me Always With You.

Gotta agree re Comfortably Numb too

RE: Nokia PC Suite - txt msg backups

Hi

Thanks for the suggestion. That was what I have been doing, but it is a laborious process to do it manually for ~150 messages. I thought there might be some s/w available that would do this.

Thanks anyway

RE: Humax PVR Problem

Hi

I have a 9200T and yes the update does seem to have fixed it for me.
I also got the E-OS error, the cure was to do a factory reset on the 9200 before doing the OTA (over the air) update.

A popular theory is that freezes only occured on MHEG channels, so until you are able to obtain the OTA update, I suggest you leave the box on Channel 5 whilst not watching the TV.

Hope this helps

Nokia PC Suite - txt msg backups

I`m using version 6.70.22 of Nokia PC suite to copy all text messages in my 6230i inbox and sent mail to the PC whenever the phone gets full. I`m trying to keep a record of every text msg that my girlfriend and I send each other from when we met. :x

However, messages are stored on the PC in .vmg files and their filenames seem to bear no relation to the date/time on which they were made. I`m trying to combine all of these into an MS Word document with date/time stamp, in the correct date/time order. I was thinking that it must be possible using VB or maybe some other text/binary file processing tool.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

TIA

RE: Modern Synths

Hi Paul,

This link may help. There are other guides to MIDI on the web too.

Many keyboards now come with USB connection and drivers so you can hook directly up to the PC. Failing that you will need MIDI cables and a suitable PC MIDI interface (sound cards often come with these, although you will need an adapter cable).

As for software, there is a lot of choice. Cubase SE3 might fit the bill. Or maybe Cakewalk Home Music Creator.

If you are near any major musical instrument shops like Andertons in Guildford, I suggest you go in and get them to suggest and demo some examples of what might suit your needs.

Hope this helps.

p.s. the KS-4 looks wicked, are you happy with it?

I`ve used Virtual DJ which is pretty nifty. Check it out here.

Archos Gmini xs202?

I`m looking at getting a small mp3 player to replace my Zen 30Gb.
Ideally I would like to get one that acts as a mass storage device under XP without any drivers. Would also be great to just be able to drag and drop MP3 folders in explorer without having to go through any 3rd party software (such as Creative`s awful nomad jukebox).

The Archos Xs202 seems to fit the bill. Does anyone out there have one and if so what are your impressions of it? Easy of use, battery life vs claimed battery life, speed of transfer?

TIA

RE: can you recommend a RELIABLE dvd recorder

Panny E55 here, still going strong after a year. Excellent piece of kit.

RE: Help needed in making -RAM to -R with TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6

One other thing that I have found is that TMPGenc DVD Author doesn`t like it if you try to mix different recording speeds on the same disk.

e.g. on the Panny E55 if you record one programme in SP and another one in LP,
DVD Author will complain if you try to burn both programmes onto the same DVD-R.

RE: -Ram to -R with LG

Hi GJF,

I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to convert my DVD-RAM recordings to DVD-R on my PC.

See here for more details.

Toshiba Gigabeat 20Gb MP3 player - any good?

I`m considering one of these to replace my defunct Novatech npod+ 20Gb player.

Does anyone have the Toshiba? What do you think of it?

I really liked the ability of the npod to just plug-in to a PC running XP and be usable as an external drive without the need to install drivers. Does the Tosh support that?
I know the Sony HD5 doesn`t as I`ve tried a colleague`s at work.

Thanks

RE: Sony NWHD3 Hard Disc Drive 20 GB MP3 player

Then again you can get the latest model (HD5 20Gb) player for £179.99 here., and a 30Gb version for £207 here.

RE: Lets get all nostalgic and play,

Mine was a Compukit UK 101 - anyone here old enough to remember that?
It was based on the Ohio Scientific Superboard II. Powered by a 1Mhz 6502 :B
Those were the days! Over the years it was followed by:

ZX81
ZX Spectrum
Commodore 64 8)
Atari ST
Commodore Amiga (various including the B2000 and A500)
Then it was PCs all the way!

RE: Burning 4 disk images onto 1 DVD

Just creat ISO images of each CD-Rom on your hard drive and then burn all of these ISO files to the recordable DVD. Then mount each cd image in turn from the DVD using Daemon tools i.e. when the install program asks for the next disk, unmount the current one in Daemon tools and mount the next image until you`re done. This certainly works for "unprotected" content anyway.

RE: Hyundai 32

There is an "HDTV ready" logo on the special offers page here.

Does HDTV readiness require DVI or HDMI input?

RE: Best Freeview Box?

Been very happy with my Humax PVR8000T freeview box with built-in hard disk (which I`ve upgraded from 40Gb to 120Gb). Only one tuner but I can still watch terrestrial channels while recording a freeview channel (or vice versa), which suits my needs.

SlimKitPro for PS Two

Has anyone tried one of these yet?

If so does tool C work any better than on the normal slimtool? I`ve now fitted two of the normal slimtools to two different PS Twos. With the first one, tool C eventually stayed down, but with the second one it still keeps popping up and consequently is totally useless :/

RE: NTL Broadband Speeds Up Soon

Just realised I used the broadband support number, not the 0800 052 2000 one.
Just rang that one and a nice lady upgraded me while I was on the phone. 8)

DD

RE: NTL Broadband Speeds Up Soon

I`m on cable modem @ 750kbps in Portsmouth area. Still :-(

The 2Mbps auto-upgrade link didn`t work for me. After entering my username and password it said that it couldn`t find me on the system :( I know I entered the details correctly (even got NTL to re-send my password to make sure)..

Next I phoned NTL broadband support. After a lengthy wait I was told by the support chap that "NTL is rolling out the upgrades over the next 4 to 6 weeks but it is not available yet". I explained that it is available in some areas as I`d seen lots of posts here and other places (e.g. cableforum) from people who already had it. He then just repeated the same sentence like he was reading from a script. I hung up.

YMMV
