RE: PC WORLD VERBATIM DVD+(or -) R discs - 50 for £19.99

I suppose choosing a disc is like buying anything else - you decide what suits and you run with it. I have used Imation and others but my experience shows you get what you pay for. But its horses for courses. So I will stick with verbatim - and good luck to others who are happy using other makes.

PC World do occasionally have good deals - but I must admit their sales force don`t inspire confidence - but I suppose that might be a topic for another thread!

RE: PC WORLD VERBATIM DVD+(or -) R discs - 50 for £19.99

Kalal - Are they cheaper at SVP? How much are they there including delivery? :/ I could only find the 16x verbatim for £24.99 plus £5 delivery!

PC WORLD VERBATIM DVD+(or -) R discs - 50 for £19.99

Not that I would normally recommend blank recordable discs to be purchased from PC World but they have an offer on for the Verbatim 8x DVD+R (or -) with advanced AZO technology (whateverthat is!) for £19.99 - saving £10 - for 50 discs. They are marked up at £29.99 - but scan through at £19.99.

I know the long debate about which discs are best and the best dyes etc etc but I have gone back to Verbatim from others as I have never had any trouble with them either writing to them or my av equipment reading them.

Happy easter.

RE: MVC Trade in deal 4 games/DVD`s for a chart title.

Have bought two titles on this offer - went into gamestation - bought three copies of the same title for £3.99 each (splinter cell) - had one of my own to swap - and got the latest wrestling title for my son. Then again this weekend for the new football game (the trick one cant remember the name!) - MVC don`t like the sports titles very much (similar to when Game offer this promotion)v but therer is no limit on the same games - unlike when Game do it. Also, you need a voucher now - the person behind the desk handed me one but they are usually mailed to customers.

It`s a good deal.

18866 - putting their charges up

18866 is a phone company that currently charges 1p for each phone call - this is the connection charge. The actual phone call is free. It isn`t a scam - I have been using them since November - and my three months bill - including a few calls to the USA - has come to a grand total of £3.65. You still have to pay the line rental with BT - but you do with most others. I know of no better deals.

They are, sadly, doubling their charge to 2p connection from the end of March - but that is still significantly cheaper than all the rest. Their call charges to USA etc are also very cheap.

Incidently, I am in no way associated with the company - just a satisfied user!.

RE: Copying DVDS

I have had the same problem and I found that taking out the adverts and other features were a help when the compression rating got to below 60% on dvd shrink. I also use Verbatim and for me they have been the best media to use.

LX Direct - just how long do you need to wait for an xbox??

I ordered an xbox in December using the various discount codes available so was due to pay £120 for an x box plus three games. I received an amail saying that I would receive the xbox in January. I then checked the order and it said February. I then received a statement charging for the goods (although I have it on six month interest free so not due to pay till June/July). Customer services phoned my up in February and said was I happy with the goods and did I want to take out their (expensive) insurance. I said I was still waiting for them!.

They then sent me a message saying March - and now April. Anyone else had problems with their order?

RE: My DVD Writer NEC ND 1000A doesn`t write or read CD`s (it just clicks a few times and stops!!)

I had a similar problem - do you have software such as AnyDVD loaded - I had downloaded the latest copy and it hadnt loaded properly - brought all my dvds to a standstill.

Downloaded again and fine.

I got a dimention 4600 - P4 2.8 with 512 mb ram and 80 gb hard disk with windows xp professional and dvd writer and audiology 2 sound card (inc 3 year on site) for £450 - and its excellent - arrived 4 days after order and its like new.

RE: Cheap, hackable portable DVD with screen.

Mirror

Where (ie. which shop) have you seen the venturer for £119 at argos? The website states it is £159

RE: Packard Bell 5.1 Home Theatre System - anyone had one delivered recently?

Well I take it all back it did work.

A quick summary of what I found (its snowing in London by the way!)

The components were very sturdy and well made. Instrucitons clear and all the bits were present. Adequate cabelling was included and also speaker stands. Subwoofer quite substantive.

Connected it all up and played the new film Pirates of the Caribbean on DTS. Worked a treat on the loud sections, very good performance for what is a PC system. Seperation was good and bass and treble adequate. The tried it on the Matrix on 5.1 and similar results were found. The processor automatically selected the right programme.

Overall very good. But, and a big but, the system sadly did not perform so well on the quieter sections of the film. There was an audible buzzing through the speakers on speaking sections that only went away by turning the bass on the speakers right down. Sadly, this had the effect of also turing down the narrative so you could only hear the background noises!

I think this problem reading other reviews of cheaper systems is endemic and sadly meant that I am now packaging up the system and taking it back (although I might give it one more try with an optical connection [was using cheap coaxal lead]. Which is a real shame because the overall build quality and what you get for your money kit wise is excellent.

So back to the joys of PC World.

RE: Packard Bell 5.1 Home Theatre System - anyone had one delivered recently?

IF it does work will post a review.

I am more sceptical than you though..............I will be very surprisd if it works......

Will post you an update by the weekend.

Packard Bell 5.1 Home Theatre System - anyone had one delivered recently?

I ordered a Packard Bell 5.1 Digital Theatre kit from the PC World web site on the 1 January. .Despite numerous telephone calls to their help desk (which took on average 10 minutes to answer) the product did not arrive until the 26 January.

The products packaging clearly states that the processor contains DTS, as well as Dolby Digital 5.1 and Pro Logic. To my surprise on opening the packaging despite the remote controller having a DTS button the actual processing unit, where the DTS switch should be, contains a Bypass switch, that cuts the sound to the front two speakers only (clearly the opposite of DTS). :(

I contacted the help desk (and they eventually put me through to one of their stores (Portsmouth). They opened one of the box`s they had in stock and confirmed that their unit did not have the DTS labelled either, despite the packaging clearly stating in very large highlighted letters that it should. They stated that if I wasn`t happy then I should drive to their store (at my expense) and get a refund - or set up the whole speaker package myself and through an optical connection check that the Bypass switch hadn`t merely been mislabelled. Apparently in the whole of the PC World store they had not mechanism for testing it themselves!! >:(

Anyone else got a system that says its got DTS when if fact it hasn`t?

RE: DVD Popcorn

PC World -by internet. They are a shambles. One telephonist, after waiting 20 mins for them to answer, said we are sorry we took too many orders over x-mas!!

Well, they may have taken a lot of orders but I am as sure as h*** they haven`t delivered any yet!!

Mind you - the bumph on the site may have said orders for x-mas 2004 now being taken!!!.

And they debit your account on order, so what`s the incentive for them to deliver anyway. They have got the money, and the goods!!

Don`t use them...............

RE: SKY PLUS TWIN RECORD FEATURE

Apparently the engineer I had at the weekend said the software update was due in the next 14-21 days - it would be done automatically

RE: Bargain of the year 2003. What was yours ?

I got a brand new Ford Ka 1.3i from a Ford dealer for £4995 inc tax and full tank of fuel, 3yr warranty and years RAC cover...........but I don`t think this one counts for this web-site...............so it would have to be the DVD player from vodaphone for nothing on their Anytime 100 internet tariff................or could be the new Pro Evolution Soccer plus Prince of Persia on PS2 (both brand new) for £44 from local Game shop.........

RE: Tchibo speakers and dolby decoder

Er ...............Tchibo!!!!!

RE: Panasonic SCDT 100

Thanks

See new thread - tell me if you get it

Tchibo speakers and dolby decoder

Being offered for £80. Any takers yet? If so what`s it like.

RE: Panasonic SCDT 100

Thank you Gouryella

I got the store down to £80 but then in checking with Panasonic found that I couldn`t get DTS/5.1 through the audio connections - so you were right. Back to the drawing board

:(

RE: Panasonic SCDT 100

Thank you all I will go in and have a look at the intruction manual and see if I can get DTS/5.1. Unless anyone else out there knows. If not I will leave it.

I do wonder sometimes why they sell this stuff which actually may be worthless (unless you`ve got the DVD player) - do places like Dixons and Currys etc get audiophiles in their shops - don`t they tend to go to places like Richer Sounds and other specialist HiFi outlets?

RE: Panasonic SCDT 100

Cause its for my son for his bedroom and I have the dvd and need a small system. I aready have seperates with subwoofer etc as my main system

It has two normal audio in sockets so will take the dvd and sky.

As you say I could go to Richer Sounds, but they dont have in stock very cheap systems at the moment. And then there is the purchase of the speakers.

Anyone out there actually got the panasonic system?? Is it any good?

Panasonic SCDT 100

Seen one of these (with no dvd player) for £125 (shop says its £250 less 50% offer).

Any good at that price?

Noticed its got no scart sockets or digital sockets though. Its to go with an existing - non Panasonic - dvd plus sky

RE: HACK REQUIRED FOR PRISM 352P DVD PLAYER
