RE: Revels sweets

Hi Jill,

The sweets you are referring to where Galaxy Counters!

They came in a mainly white packet with 70`s style cartoon animals. The Owl was the one I remember most but there may well have been a Giraffe.

Regards,

Steve,

RE: Oliver the "humanzee"

You had me going there, I thought the thread refered to Jamie Oliver!

RE: What was the best toy you ever had?

Old Toy Fans may want to check out my friend and I`s web site...

www.stuffwelove.co.uk

which has pictures and info on a lot of the toys mentioned above.

We also welcome contributions so if you have pictures and information/stories on toys we have`nt yet included please let us know.

Steve

Sony Cybershot DSC-U20 Digital Camera

I`m not sure if this is a National offer or just specific to my store but the Southend-on-Sea Argos store was selling the Sony Cybershot DSC-U20 Digital Camera (currently £199.90 in Jessops) for £79.99 under a Manager`s Special (it`s not listed in the current catalogue) on Saturday. They had 4 in stock and I got 2 (one for my sister-in-law and I didn`t make a profit!).

As I say I don`t know if it`s available in any other stores but it may be worth a check. The Catalogue No is 591/9361.

Home Ringtone Phone

With the current popularity of ringtones for Mobile phones why doesn’t someone come up with a Home phone that you could download ringtones to, or even better it could have a socket and lead for connecting to a CD Player and the facility to record about 20 seconds of your favourite tracks to an internal chip for use as ringtones.

A bit tacky, I know, but I’m sure it would be pretty popular.

RE: in desperate need of head - BEN robot from McDONALDS :-)

Ben`s head is about all the McDonalds around here has so my little girl has 4! and I`m sure she won`t mind giving one up.

Send me an email at evets[at]ten.sirodnoc with your address details and I`ll send one off straight away.

RE: PLOT HOLES, PLOT HOLES, WHERE ART THOU PLOT HOLES?

What about at the begining of `The Empire Strikes Back`? The only way the rebels can escape Hoth is to fire that great big cannon thing at the Empire ships to distract them while the rebels make a break for it straight through the Empire fleet. Why didn`t they just take the route Luke takes off the planet? there`s not an Empire ship anywhere in sight!

RE: The Thing - worth getting?

In my opinion, yes. The effects are begining to look a little dated but still a good watch.

RE: Wharfedale M3

An online version of the manual is available for viewing at;

http://euronics.keyservice.co.uk/m3/manual/page/index

But I assume it`s just a copy of the manual you have as I can`t see any references to viewing JPEGs.

RE: National Lampoon`s Christmas Vacation on DVD?

The R1 version is available through www.play.com for £11.99 delivered but has been out of stock for about two weeks now so don`t hold much hope of getting it before Xmas. You should be able to get it through any of the normal R1 suppliers, e.g. www.dvdboxoffice.com are listing it at £11.77 delivered.

I don`t think a R2 version has been released, but i could be wrong.

RE: Taping

Although I`m no DVD `techie` I think the answer to your questions are as far as taping a DVD is concerned all DVD players come with a system called `Macrovision` which scrambles the picture when connected to a VCR, thus preventing copying. Depending on which player you have this can sometimes be disabled. Check the Multi-Region Hacks section on this site to see if it`s possible on your player.
If you want to make a DVD to DVD copy I assume you`ll need a PC equipped with a DVD writer plus appropriate software.
As I said I`m no DVD expert and I sure someone can give you better advice and/or other options.

RE: Talking of Tivo.....When the Bloomin `eck are Sky gonna reduce the price of Sky+???????

Can`t remember the exact details but I`m sure I had something through from Sky about a month ago offering Sky+ at reduced prices. It did say something about the offer was because I`d been with Sky for a long time but I just assumed everyone got it.

As I said I didn`t take much notice because I wasn`t interested but it was definately cheaper.

The Real McKoy?

Anyone know if this is the real ITV Digital `Mun-Key` or a cheap copy?

Apparently the genuine ones go for about £70 on Ebay.

RE: Best and Worst adverts at the mo

Surely everyone`s forgetting the worst series of adverts of all time...The Sainsburys ones featuring the hideous Jamie Oliver and his obnoxious bunch of psuedo `mates`. One of whom stars in the almost as bad Doritos `buddy` ads....AAAARRGGGHHH!

As for best at the moment, it`s got to be the John Smith`s ones, although of all time it`s the PG Chimps for me!

RE: spider-man R2 on play.com

Personally I love it when a thread develops into a heated debate, especially when there`s plenty of sarcasm involved. Perhaps we could have a seperate `Debates` forum where the usual moderation is relaxed a little to allow a bit of friendly abuse between friends.

Problems with Wharfdale 750 playing VCDs

Can any fellow Wharfdale 750 owners, or anyone else, help me with a problem? My Wharfdale has just decided to stop playing VCDs.

It never used to have any problems, playing any VCDs I threw at it with no trouble at all. But recently it has been getting progressively worse, with a lot of skipping, pixellation and sound distortion. Now it`s just refusing to play any VCDs at all, even ones that played perfectly before.

It still plays DVDs perfectly, any ideas?

RE: Hacks for Alba 103

Roger,

View this thread for further info (this is the first time I`ve tried posting a thread reference so sorry if it doesn`t work !)

http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=176&Thread=6768

Looks like my mate may have assumed you could do something you can`t !

RE: Hacks for Alba 103

I may be wrong but I`m sure a friend of mine who has an Alba 103 said that his was multi-region straight from the box but there was also a menu screen available under "preferences" were he could choose to make it region specific. If this is the case you should be able to make the player Region 1 specific for RCE encoded disks and multi-region for all the others.

Again I apologise if I`m wrong but I`m sure that`s what he said.

RE: Which Scart ?

uk_bas,

To turn sub woofer on/off use the button with the speaker/music note symbol (it`s just below the yellow fast-text button) this button should toggle the sub woofer on and off. When the option is set to "on" you should also be able to adjust the sub woofer volume with the + and - buttons situated below the sliding panel. I think that`s it as far as the sub woofer is concerned but let me know via this thread if you need anything else from the manual.

RE: Which Scart ?

(Reply to uk_bas)

Is it the simple subwoofer on/off option you want to access or something more sophisticated ? If it`s the on/off I`ll post the instructions this evening once I check the manual. I can`t recall seeing any more sophisticated subwoofer options but I`ll double-check the manual again.

RE: Which Scart ?

Thanks uk_bas, I`ll give it a go. I too was considering a composite scart for my playstation as I`ve run out of scart sockets (3 really isn`t enough these days !) What scart socket do you connect to ?

Which Scart ?

My new TV (Toshiba 28W8DB) has 3 scarts, although as I understand it only scart 1 has RGB input. Currently I have Sky analogue attached to scart 1, VCR on scart 2 and Wharfy 750 (output set to RGB) on scart 3 (set to AV input) as advised by the TV`s manual. Would I be better off switching the DVD to scart 1 to make full use of RGB ? I must admit to being a DVD viewing novice (only watched one movie !) but it looked and sounded pretty good as it is.

RE: What Wharfdale have I got ???

Thanks for that AlteredReality. From what you say and from reading an earlier thread I reckon you`re right.

What Wharfdale have I got ???

Excuse my ignorance but can anybody tell me what model of Wharfdale DVD player I have. The box and instructions say "DVD 750" but it`s different to my mate`s 750 in that mine has a "DTS" legend and LED indicator next to the Dolby one, his hasn`t, so I`d assume I have a updated 750, not a 750s. The situation isn`t helped by Tesco displaying an image of what looks like an early 750 (no DTS LED) under 750s on their website. Any info would be most welcome.
