Jvc do a few crts that are HDTV compatible but the usual sonys,panasonics,pioneer plasmas are all hdtv compatible.Check out www.prc-direct.co.uk for a list of HDTV plasmas.I wouild be surprised to see any plasmas that dont support 1080I.

Sky tv have announced HIDEF broadcasts for 2006 which is brilliant news.HIDEF is stunning.But i think for europe we will have to pay a lot for premium channels.Try and go for an xga model ie 1366 x 768 resolution.

ps the one we will have on sale will have the latest firmware version on it as well.The amazon ones are slightly older revisions but frimware is downloadable from the ellion site.

dvr900 comes with scart input only.After a bit of pressure we got them to put a 2 scarts for in and out.It worked well on out tests with all the media branded media we threw at it.

One interesting fact is that lcd panels are set to overtake plasma displays within 2-3 years.I dont like the "shimmering" effect of lcds but they are getting better.I bit pricey for say a 30 inch at about £2200.You can buy a 42inch samsung plasma for that.Somebody mentioned HDMI.I saw a dvd through a HDMI output ie the pionneer 43 and the picture was stunning.

I never liked plasma until i saw a HDTV demo at the CES show.It blew my mind.Ok they only last 60k hours or so but even then they are good.At the moment i have a jvc dhvhs
recorder to watch hdtv films,a zinwell reciver to recieve HDTV broadcasts from www.euro1080i.com and thinking of ordering a jvc grhd1 HD camcorder from the states.I have been a crt fanatic for many years changing my tv at least every 3 years.But i bought a panasonic pw5 and its the best tv ive ever had.Dvds are brilliant.Sky is crap though so we cant have everything.

If you watch the news tonight(thursday 8th jan)the British phonographic institute are taking legal action against cd wow(as well as others)for selling music cds outside of the eu.Sounds very similar to the region 1 problem with laser enterprises a few years ago.It will be interesting to see the outcome of the test case.

It usually takes 4-5 weeks from amazon usa but i ordered a dvd on december 27th and it turned up on january 6th.I was shocked to say the least.

As far as i know there in NO dtheatre region 2 titles and i doubt there ever will be.The market in the uk is non existent for dhvhs dtheatre.Even in the states the titles are not coming out quick enough.I have a jvc 3000 and i import tapes from the states which is the only source at the moment.

I bought my first dvds from this company in 1996.Then we used to sell region 1 dvds and delivery was by fedex and they were quite good but have not used them for many years.
Not sure how good they wouild be with the post now but they have been going for many years.

The jvc is apprently HDTV ready.Its a non issue at the moment but you may seen a HD satellite channel next year and HD DVD is on the horizon as well.

RE: Best DVD player up to £700

Best one so far wouild be the DENON 2900.Dvd audio/sacd and also PAL/NTSC progressive scan.Has everything on it.You will be hard pressed to get it for £700 but probably aroung £800.Spec wise it has everything you want.

A lot of cheap players also have DTS decoders on board but dont mention it as this save $10 per player.

The jvchd3000 was bought from a company called www.unitedhomeproducts.com.The price had just dropped to $650 becuase they have just released the hd4000.It worked about about £650 landed.Expensive for a video that is only good for playback of dtheatre films.They were not cheap either at $35-$45.To watch HD dvds it must have the dtheatre logo.A standard dvhs machine from the uk will not playback in HD.The jvcs are generally available everywhere.See www.dvhsmovie.com for more info.
The new panasonics are amazing with a 4000:1 contrast ratios.The sonys look the best but you cant beat the panasonics for performance.

This explains the price crash on certain brands of dvd players.Called dolby this morning and scan players made by ellion are all clear.Phew/!!! thank god.This is similar situation to the licensing problem with phillips.

I was so impressed with hidef that i imported a DVHS dtheatre from the states with abouth 20 movies.Stuff like T2,independance day looks amazing.Better than the dvd.Ok it is tape based with all the usual disadvantages but its the only true source for 1080i hidef for us europeans.Its a shame that the uk/europe did not develop HIDEF.I really envy the americans.I hope the EURO 1080 project takes off and does start in jan 2004.More info on dvhs can be found on www.dvhsmovie.com.The good news is that most plasmas are HD ready anyway.

You will need a 240 to 110v coverter.You may get charged shipping and duty and vat and if the headphone goes faulty you may need to send it back to the states for repair.After taking all this into account is probably wise to buy from the uk.

KISS 450/500 MULTIREGION HACK AVIALABLE

If you go on to www.scan.co.uk we do have a multiregion hack for the KISS 500 which does not involve removing the drive etc etc.Download the firmware and load it on to a cd and pop it into the player.The firmware is unnoficial and scan will not be responsible if it kills the player.This can only happen if the player is switched off while updating the firmware.There
is a hack available for the 450 as well but it depends on the revision of the drive.
