RE: Free Fox DVD`S - Did You Receive Yours?

I never got the one I ordered

RE: Cheap Smokes

I was getting fairly regular supplies from dutyfreecentre.com but the last two packages both got confiscated. I emailed dutyfreecentre.com and the response was - you guessed it - silence!
I think C&E must have been targetting them. I could put up with losing one in four packages but two on the trot was a bit much. I would love to know how others have fared with them recently - maybe I was just unlucky.

RE: The scope of Bargain Buckets entries

What a great forum this is!
I`ve had loads of DVD bargains thanks to posts on the forum. I have also had lots of other great bargains - starting, for me, with the Kodak digital camera.
Then there was the amazing post about getting really cheap ciggies - about a quid a pack for the Gitanes that otherwise cost me £4.50,when I can find them. I`ve had loads of deliveries and only had to refuse one batch of 200 because of getting caught by Customs.
Just last week I received my cheap Dances With Wolves from CD-WOW thanks to a post here. With it came a voucher for £20 off Virgin Wines. On the forum, I read of a free shipping offer from Virgin expiring last night. So, I get twenty quid off my Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon and don`t even pay the five quid shipping.
Like I say, this is a GREAT forum!
Keep posting those bargains - DVD or other stuff - thanks everyone!

RE: The scope of Bargain Buckets entries

Oh, I forgot to say, they don`t all work out. Drinks From Spain went bust so I never got my duty-free booze.
There you go.

Denon DVD 3300 - how to hack?

Anyone know how to region-hack a Denon DVD3300?
Tim

RE: Gone with the wind @ £8.99

Correct, it was shot in 4:3 but there was a Cinemascope version released in the cinema in the 1960s - that`s why I remember seeing it in wide screen. BBC On-line has the following review of the Buena Vista DVD which spells that out:

"It is DVDs like the new release of "Gone With the Wind" that should convince any movie lover that they must own a DVD player.

Filmed in the 1.33:1 Academy ratio, a widescreen version was produced in the 60s for cinema release that reduced considerably the impact of the movie, not least because the colour composition was altered. Thankfully a restored full-screen print has been used for this DVD transfer, and what a joy it is to witness. The Technicolor tones must surely look as vivid as the original release and the freshness of some scenes is quite astonishing.

A new 5.1 sound mix accompanies the film and it concentrates mainly on diffusing the music score through the front three speakers. There are some great effects, as you`ll soon find out when the explosive Civil War charges up your subwoofer.

It`s not often that we`d recommend a DVD without a single extra feature, but for the quality of the transfer, this disc is well worth owning. It is certainly the format of choice to introduce new generations to a film that does not look as if it was made over 60 years ago. Our only complaint is that the menu screens look horribly cheap, but undoubtedly there will be a special extras laden edition along one day to correct that.

Region: 2
Chapters: 56
Ratio: 1.33:1 (original fullscreen Academy ratio)
Sound: Dolby Digital 5.1
Technical Features: Scene selection, muliple languages and subtitles, and English for the hearing impaired."

RE: Gone with the wind @ £8.99

Interesting post - BUT - this one is 4:3. Is there a widescreen version available? There should be, the original movie was Cinemascope. Maybe a restored special edition is on the way.

RE: Ealing Comedy Collection from amazon.co.uk for just £13.92!

Yes, I agree - I have shopped a lot with Amazon for books and DVDs and their response to this mistake will make sure I keep shopping with them. Pretty smart of Amazon, eh?

RE: Help! Got a promo code for Holiday Autos

Anyone got suggestions for cheap car hire in Spain?

RE: Spanish Fags

Another successful delivery! If there`s a Customs charge you don`t have to accept the package. That way you lose the 12 pounds or so but, do the sums - say you lose one in four packages, you are still getting VERY cheap cigs.

RE: Amazon half price sale.

Me too! The code gives a useful further saving.
Thanks, Rocky!

RE: Spanish Fags

The savings are actually so enormous that, even if you lost the occasional package to HM Customs, you would still be saving loads of dosh.
Tim

RE: Spanish Fags

Another successful delivery from dutyfreecenter.com!
I guess HM Customs simply don`t have enough staff to process all packages coming into the UK
This one was posted from somewhere other than Zurich. It seems they are smart enough to vary where they post the cigs from.
Tim

RE: Spanish Fags

Well, that`s a pretty comprehensive downer!
Tim

RE: Spanish Fags

Thanks for this post. Being inside the EU unlike Andorra or Zurich from where the other firm send their cigs, no further tax or duty is payable on arrival in the UK as long as they are for personal use.
They also have "Drinks From Spain" with booze at surprisingly low prices which actually include shipping.
www.drinksfromspain.com/
I`ve tried an order - takes up to 22 days to deliver, they say.
Fingers crossed!

RE: Internet-ready ad-ware PCs

I find those ads REALLY annoying (and they slow you down) and have recently downloaded a brilliant free programme which identifies spyware and adware that has been placed on your computer and cleans it off. It works beautifully.
Go to: www.lavasoft.de and find the download for "Ad-Aware" - you`ll wonder how you lived without it.

RE: i know its not a dvd but.....

I have been ordering just 200 at a time and, so far, several deliveries with no problem.
Tim

RE: dirty harry £19.99 at woolies

I`ve ordered one too - good post - thanks!

RE: i know its not a dvd but.....

Another successful delivery - slowish at just over a week but no extra charges - I recommend them if you don`t want to pay UK prices.

RE: i know its not a dvd but.....

I ordered another 200 Gitanes tipped after the first successful delivery - but, being cautious, only 200.
They should arrive tomorrow (Wednesday) - hope I don`t get that message about Customs and Excise!

RE: FREE External CD Rewriter!!!

I`ve just ordered one for 25 euros shipping charge. When I tried ordering after putting in UK as the country it came up priced at 159-99 - then had to delete the cookie to get back to the original page with price of zero euros.
My Kodak camera is still going strong but I`m glad I didn`t pay the proper price for it!

RE: i know its not a dvd but.....

They`ve arrived - in a jiffy bag not looking like a carton of 200, with a customs declaration but nothing extra to pay.

Brilliant site - well done robtruscott!

POWERDVD XP for PC - multi-region hack?

I`m using PowerDVD xp on my PC and it allows only five changes of region. Does anyone have a hack for this?

RE: i know its not a dvd but.....

Thanks, tried www.ironlung.com but it just forwarded me straight on to
http://www.especials.com/ which didn`t seem to have cheap ciggies.

RE: i know its not a dvd but.....

I ordered some last Saturday (25th). Has anyone actually received any yet? Did you have to pay any tax/duty?
