RE: Doctor Who... Hit, Miss, or Maybe?

I really enjoyed it, I wasn`t sure if I would but I did.
My eldest who`s eleven was really impressed and is looking forward to next week.
I`d go for more of the intensity please Mr Ecc as that hit it more for me.
Great fun and if you ask me anyone prefering to watch the A+D rubbish on C3 must need serious help and a lot more meals with fish in them.
Billie was preety good too.
Good stuff Beeb.

PS watched Tom B in the Talons of Weng Chiang today in a sort of preperation, Superb.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone got or seen the pacific 203 all in one jobby in action.???

I went in to asda today to possibly buy a second 1002w pacific as its so bloody good.
But I was struck by the pacific 203 all in surround sound with speakers baby and really fancy that.( £70 notes)
I would have bought it there and then but thought I would check first to see if the picture qaulity was up to that of the player only 1002 which for the cash is superb and sharp etc.
So anyone got one or seen one in action, it would be nice if the formware was the same picture decodeder wise as the 1002, .
Any opinions would be a great help, or I can buy another 1002w and a surround sound set thats £35 in asda instead.
Thanks in advance.

RE: How pathetic is the US for deporting Cat Stevens

If the Homeland security wallies over there want to protect American citizens they should deport all of the Americans who each year kill thousands upon thousands of their fellows with guns and knives etc.
The numbers are phenominal.
Must admit I fancied writing to number 10 to ask how many children in iraq have been killed and maimed so far ( and still are) , never mind psychologially scarred.
If the homeland security folks wanted to protect innocent lives they should have camped out on the borders of iraq and stopped their buddies going in and doing the business. some security over there now too.

Never been drunk, Anyone else.????

Just wondered if anyone else has never been drunk in their lives so far. I`m 37 and not been yet.
I suppose I`m probaly at about 20-25 units so far this life time.
Not a T-totaller or anything or methodist etc, just don`t like the taste or a few things about it, twatty dad included.
Am I alone in a drunk free existance.

RE: Which Country do you think poses the greatest threat to mankind??

GLOBAL WARMING IS ALREADY HERE, NO-ONE SEE THE NEWS REPORT ON 5 TONIGHT ABOUT HOW A VERY SMALL RISE INTEMPERATURE GLOBALLY HAS TIPPED MUCH OF OZ INTO A DROUGHT CYCLE IT CAN`T SEEM TO GET OUT OF.
Sorry caps stuck, all over the world its happeniing, ;last night there was a report about the permafrost melting all over the spot and ironically that puts more CO2 in the air as well compounding the problem.
No-one is denying that these sorts of things happen naturally from time to time but they take far far longer an dthings can adapt.
Countrywise I personally really fear the US, they run around beating all of the wasps nests with sticks and we`re all going to pay.
I had to laugh at Tony B describing Iraq as the crucible of terrorism, who the hell made it like that.
With saddam compared to most middle east countries you could have almost called it terrorism free cos he hated them for his own reasons, now its the furnace that forges the many etc etc.
The Us and our silly leaders have been gross tits allround.
We now know they were told Iraq would go bonkers, they were told it would increase terrorism towards us.
they were told Iraqi`s would suffer like hell and maybe go on to civil war etc etc.
What a crowd of spanners. thickies of the worst order.

Did anyone see the report that sellafield has been denying inspections from outside bodies for over 5 years so the EU is having to take them to court to try to see whats going on in there.
This in a plant that handles weapons grade nuclear materials.
Well Tony when george hears about it and tells you to start bombing the Uk we had better get our heads down.

Basically it is the Us I fear most as they tell the whole world and its children if you think you are right you can kill and control who you like, tackle anything with violence.
they unfortunately lead by a sad and ill misguided example.
Oh well, I think I need a hot seet cup of tea.

RE: Keaton, Chaplin, Langdon et al

I used to collect a good few on 8mm cine film and you can do the speed to the origional 16FPS or just run it a bit slowwr than the 18FS.
Now sadly I just collect on DVd, the buster keaton ones volumes 1 to 5 are great and cheap and look superb on a half decet video projector.
Steamboat bill Jnr is my favourite,Keaton 1928 or so.
If people haven`t seen many silent shorts and features, drama or comedy you should give some a go as many are fantastic and have a certain quality and feel about them you don`t get now.
Some of the odd off the wall stuff is very eerie as well.
Best Mark.

Whats got the sharpest depthiest lovely picture qaulity.

Hi We`ve got a pacific 1002w that to be honest has an incredible picture quality for the price, even looks superb and depthy on R1`s.I particularly like that depthy thing thats good on RGB as not usually on others. I think oftem RGB flattens things a bit if you know what I mean on some players.
Is there anything to beat the pacific picture wise at all thats affordable,
many Thanks Mark.

RE: Pro hunting......

Sorry I`m` a bit late RE global warming and dogs and cats.
Its not about dogs wind though that does play in its the fact that to get 1lb of meat you use 3 to 4 lbs of grain, the grain has to be farmed of course then the cows and pigs etc are fed the grain and grass etc and cause huge amounts of methane in their life span.
The there is methane given off when the pets eat it yes as well.
Its becoming a huge problem that as countries develope they eat more meat then also have more pets eating more meat as well.
Its a far more problematic thing for climate change than people realise, go read up about it.
The Uk is going to end up with a climate like Russia, hot and wet in summer and bloody freezing in winter with houses that won`t be able to hack it.
So I say get rid of cats and dog, make the oil companies open the cupboards full of low emission technowlogy stuff they have bought up and burn foxes in green style power stations.
best Mark.
PS think I got confussed on the last bit.

RE: Pro hunting......

Personally I`d be happy to see dog ownership banned (apart from say farms where thery are needed) and for a whole host of reasons not least the filth issue and post 11pm dogs in yards etc barking. but mainly the fact that I have children for the gloabl warming thing thats far more worrying, and that includes cats too. Its a hell of a problem with the methane and crazy number of cats and dogs in the UK and other developed countries.
I`m not particularlly into hunting I just think foxes will decline and suffer even more. I also wanted to make the point that far more cannine suffering does on domestically, far more and no one cares really, mind you I think people are far more important anyway.
There much more important issues to do with attack and suffering like the collossal numbers of booze fuelled attacks each years, millions I believe and deaths etc from it, people things and other booze related pains.
All over the world cretures are hunted and eaten alive etc by other creatures in an array or horrendous scenarious billons a day, its nature. I worry more about people.

RE: Post Office Absolutely Stink

Best way to sort it is to put the post up by few pence to 30 or 35p for first class and do away with second.
Its because its a real loss to deliver letters all over for the pittance that they are cutting corners.
35p to anywhere in the UK would still be superb value and give them enough cash to not have to trim and cut workers etc and even make it better.
If it went more private just imagine the going on all sorts of differnt rates to everywhere, cities cheapest, rural costing a load of differnt prices.
Parts of scotland £1 upwards if you could even send them, having to collect mail from the PO rather than door deliveries with some companies i some places it would be horrendous.
You couldn`t just buy a book of fist class stamps, if you had 10 differnt things to post in the UK you might have to have 10 different rates.
It would be hell on earth and make even the poor doings now seem like bliss.
Personally i think 28p for a letter is crackers in todays prices, even 50p would still be a bargain.
And no i don`t work for the mail but the situation with less Royal mail work would be dire, also even less chance of finding out where mail has gone as it might have gone through many different smaller companies with no one putting their hands up or even able to in that situation compensation etc would get even harder etc etc etc.
Support the royal mail, they`d probaly get more governmnet support if the gov didn`t have high powered friends waiting to zoom in and cherry pick the most profitable bits and make it even harder for the RM to get along.
Best Mark.
its worth noting that with just a relatively few millionh from the governmet would make the roayl mail much better, and ironically the government would savbe much more than that anyway with more RM workers full time and paying more tax etc and less people chucked on the dole.
Simple maths, why don`t they do it or just let them charge a sensible amount, fiddlies for friends.

RE: Pro hunting......

When fox hnting is banned there will likely be a lot more fox snaring.
This is where a snare much like but larger than rabbit ones, a round pegged wire laid where the run through hedges etc will catch themk, They genrally have a horrendous time in agony for up to days and often end up eating at their own legs etc as well. Give me hunting anyday.
Its a simple fact ban hunting fow numbers in the country will go down and down and they will arely be left to breed etc etc.
Banning hunting is the worst thing you can do for foxes and although ts not anice way to go its far beter than most of the other methods which are lingering anyway.
On domestic canine suffering it may be against the law yet its rife, only way to cure that is a ban on dog ownership completely, the numbers are astounding.
So now we need a campaign to ban it as well.
Far far far fewer foxes suffer when compared to domestic dogs, no comparrison.
And any anti hunt types who just go into a supermarket and buy any meat non compassionately reared are contibuting to even worse animal suffering but most people prefer the cheap meat nowingly. Believe me foxes have it easy in many ways.
OH well.
Best Mark.

RE: Pro hunting......

Well I`m totally pro hunting as I`m totally into foxes.
I don`t want their numbers to go down to very low levels.

There are are huge and vast areas of the British countryside where foxes are tolerated to a large degree as the land owners and farmers either take part in the sport or their sons, daugters or relatives do.
Its simple logic, why make a bit more effort with the anti fox fences when you can just get them all gassed or shot etc as theres no need to tolerate them.
In many places foxes are left to breed etc because of hunting, its true, my other half was talking to a farming wife who isn`t bothered either way but her dad was pro hunting and insisted the foxes were not terriered or netted etc and let them go along in a foxey life as he was in to the sport.
Its clear that all over the place if theres a bad fox problem turns up it will be simpler to just eliminate them, and gassing cubs in the den or shooting( they rarely die straight way anyway and die over days in pain) or poisening with mean that foxes become quite rare in the country.
Hunts rarely catch foxes, maybe two or three a year round our way, and the hunt comes past our house and its mainly locals who are just ordinary and normal incomes and its all nice smiles and waves to the nippers watching, very down to earth etc.
Don`t get me wrong its not my scene at all but I like foxes and I like tradition and if you want to talk about canine cruelty each year in the UK its estimated hundreds of thousands of dogs are mistreated, not taken to the vets, locked up all day, kicked and beaten, not fed or excercised etc etc etc.
Much more suffering and the only way to stop that fully is to ban private pet ownership, you`d save far more suffering and nicely clean the place up as well.

Fox hunting ensures many foxes get to live, breed and live foxey lives far more than they are going to if hunting is banned its simple logic people seem to miss.

"Call On Me" Video, Anyone seen it, when how, when now etc!!!!!

Listening to some chaps raving about this video on radio one the other day seems like its a must see.
I hear there is a daytime and nightime version you can get on DVD, has anyone seen either of the two versions, especially the night one as it sounds as if it may be worth a watch ahem, ha ha etc.
Does anyone know if the good ones going to be shown at all on normal 5 channel TV in the near futute at all or can you suggest where to see some vid caps.
Its intriging as the BBC have apparentlyu banned it so we`ll all be clamouring to see it.
Is it worth buying the DVD as its on that I see.
Best in anticipation, Mark.

RE: new building at ground zero

I agree that its crakcers to build a tall building there, and to call it the freedom tower is really asking for it.
I also agree that it really should ahve been left clear and as a momument. All it will be now is a testement to the power of money and greed and sodd the rest that the US has that got them in to thios situation in the first place.
If they do call it the freedom tower they might do well to put up a few photos of the people in Gautanamo bay and abu grabe, and the thousands of womwn and children etc killed and maimed and still ongoing so in Iraq. They are worth no less than the people in the towers, or are they.

RE: Lunatic ruins Marathon........................CRETIN!

So they have let the silly twot off then !!!!!!!!
I can`t help thinking that poor silva may have had an adrenalin rush as it were because of the incident and struggling to keep going then to get free must have cost energy and he very well may have just had enough to do it had the energy not rushed out. I know after a schock or rush like that you can feel drained anyway never mind after 24 odd miles.
I think as he still manged to hold himself together and get bronze he may well have done.
Maybe they should have interviewed the idiot on top of a high building then suddenly rushed up to him and given him a good push, saying they were sorry and they just didn`t know what came over them but god this that and the other etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Builders name- Which is the funniest genuine name?

My mum went to school with a girl called Winifred Snodgrass.

This next one isn`t real but just thought of it.

Richard Slicker would be a good one with just the initial before the surname. But must have been thought of before, if not I claim its urban slang copyright.

RE: Rude Girls on 2!!! Anyone watching??

I was watching but I`ve had to stop, Oh dear, Oh dear dear etc.

RE: F***ing robbing bastards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-(

Hi Sorry to hear about this, twatin hec what do people like this think of themselves when they are sat on the toilet contemplating themselves etc. An apt place for them to think about themselves mind.
I still get a strange wonder on why the police now just don`t bother coming out to crimes any more, well rarely, even for whole cars stolen. Aparently not even for some house thefts etc too these days.
Maybe mentioned this before but I know of a chap had his M,bike that wasn`t insured for theft stolen, tracked it down himself to a house and gagrage of a known thief and rang the police to tell them and asked them to go and get it back for him.
The police actually rang this t,leaf tosser up the day before to tell him they were going down to check in his garage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! very odd policy maybe just going down and finding the bike, or he may have been on the toilet!!!! would have violated his human rights
Of course on the following day after their courtacy call nice empty gagrage. Livid was not the word to describe the bike owners reaction!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sadly it really happened and that was the last of the bike.
Just mentioned it as the police now seem to have a very strange approach to vehicle crime now as if its just to be expected and nothing they can do about it.
Unless of course your beind the wheel at 34mph and pay your way etc and are insured and so forth. I have great respect for the police, but its all gone very odd.

RE: job seekers allowence

My cousin had a right going on with the job center after he lost his job.
He`d had to move out of the house he half owned and shared with his violent step grandad ( 80+) as he was always being attacked etc by him etc, ( he was in the SS in WW2 and beat all of his children and wife etc) Bustard comes nowhere even close.
Cous paid almost more in in tax each year than I earned but once they found out he had a hald share in the house the twat was living in they stopped his job seekers allowance, rent help and started charging him council tax too as he was considered to have an asset of 15-20 K in the house even though hed tried to get his half out of the house sold etc but couldn`t with his grandad in situ legally.
So he was still having to go in to the job center all of the time and do this and that write 3 zillion letters etc just to get his stamp paid. So he off course said sodd it and paid it himself until he got work.
Off course now he is obsessed with asylum seekers etc getting cash and houses straight away. That doesn`t worry me but they could have been a bit fairer with him.
Such is life.

FREESERVE ANYTIME AGONY !!!!!!AAAARRRRGGGHHHHH

Hi is it just me but these days my Freeserve( wanadoo) anytime ordinary connection seems terrible.
Always jammed up , impossibly slow thats if I can even get on for more than a minute.
My comp is all sorted and OK, and you can get a reasonable job during the day but get towards tea time and the magical 6 `o` clock its hell on earth, on an evening it can be hell. Also early morns.
Is it just me.
Best hair pulling our net geek. Mark.

RE: Capital gains tax advice please on the old shack front !!!!!!

Thanks for that, luckliy it has been in my name since I moved in about 2 years ago so sounds possitive.

Capital gains tax advice please on the old shack front !!!!!!

Hi two years ago I split from the good lady and nippers and was given a small terraced house by my mum to live in, not worth much at the time.
Now they are going for about 50-65k !!!!!!!!!!! but I am thinking of selling to a memeber of the exes family for 45K and moving on.
What it is my name is still on the mortage of the old family house from before we split. I`ve lived here a little over two years down for council tax etc and I wondered would I have to pay capital gains tax if I sold this house.
Thanks in advance, Best Mark.

RE: European Constitution - yes or no?

Well I for one am totally against it, epsecially if we go in properly.
I`m not having better benifits, better health care often, less working hours, higher wages, more rights for parents and a better quality of life in many ways.
Oh and cheaper mortgaes and loans etc, no way Hos`e.
Another big downer is that our politicians might have to go along with things that are in ordinary peoples interests.
It could make us happier and healthier, stop it now.
best Mark.

Am I just a cynical peace lover,Tony Blair and Euro vote talk NOW!! Iraq hell in a hand bag boom etc

Well Am I. I just can`t help wondering about the suddenly unmentionable Euro vote thing being wheeled out, very handy, minds off the s***ty mess I`ve caused etc for Big T.

Asda pacific`s, Still good ??????? plus 1

Hi I wondered if the Asda pacific DVd`s still have sharp as a tack pics.
I have seen the 1002 and it looked great last year but now we need a nice good pic machine that will do any photo CD`s as well.
Are the current asda ones good and do you still get the gaurantee even though so cheap now.
Thanks Mark.

Can anyone sugest a cheap printer to do photos from a multi media card direct please.ETC ETC.

Hi we have just been given a very nifty 4.0 million pixel tiny palm size digital video recorder, does photos too.Mpeg 4.
The video has sound but its a bit stunted slightly, a bit like digital phones look on the news only a bit better but fine to take a few shots of the nippers while we save up for a proper job. Mind you you can tape straight from it on to video so quite handy.
Anyone know what these jobs cost, does MP3, voice recording, video with sound and the photos.
What it is we have a very old computer thats past it so are after a good, affordable printer that will do good photo quality staraight from the multi media card from this popped in to it so we can just keep on with the old computer as fine for our limited needs.
So any suggestions or advice greatly apprecited or where to find info.
many thanks in advance. Anyone else useed one of these.
Thanks Mark.
PS while I`m on we`re Vegan so does anyone know of any animal free photo paper you can get for printers please as well, Thanks.

RE: BBC TV Licence

Right on, its almost worth the L,Fee just for Radio free of commercial adverts constantly clogging up your listening, and BBC Radio is brilliant.
Also as said the programmes produced are excellant and no adds( apart fom thier own, it does annoy me when they advertise stuff on digital you can`t see)
I get the impression from people I know with Sky etc and pay hundreds of £`s a year for it way above the L,Fee that they mainly watch ordinary TV anyway apart from the odd film.
I`m not to sure about the beeb spending money analogue viewers pay on the digital service through, but long may the BBC thrive just as it is, market forces are`nt always the route to the best.
Mark.

Cheaper DVD player with headphone socket.Any Suggestions ???Thanks.

Hi we are after a cheap DVD player for the older nipper with a headphone socket so that he can watch DVd`s when his much younger brother is asleep in the bunk bed below.
A fairly quick to come on screen saver would be an advantage too in case he drops off also a fairly quiet drive would be an advantage and a decent picture would be nice as well.
Maybe a lot to ask for £30-£40 but any suggestions greatly appreciated so I don`t miss a good one.
Thanks. Mark.
