RE: Can you get PC Tomb Raider 4 & 5 to work on Windows XP ?

Hey Bandicoot, you can get patches to make Revelations work under XP. I used them the other month and they worked fine. Get them from:

http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/windowsxp.html

and you`ll be staring at Lara`s arse in no time.

RE: Shipping to Isle of Man?

Hey Chris,

Finally ordered from multizoneav.com. Same unit price as RGB + multiregion, extra £20 postage but I can live with that. They seem like a big company but can`t say I`ve heard of them before. Guess time will tell!

Cheers.

RE: Shipping to Isle of Man?

Thanks for the replies.

Chris, I used Techtronics for my last machine - no problems there but they seem to have gone toes up! Damn shame. I followed a few links from a Google search. Can`t remember the names of the places that refused to post to here. electronics-online.co.uk will do it for £25 extra, but the unit price is higher than elsewhere. Might have to go for it, though.

My browser is having trouble with Tesco`s website. I`ll check it out again later, but it will have to be modded, and I think nice1 is right, doubtful Tesco do that. Thanks for the link.

I`ve got too many thumbs to work a soldering iron accurately, so I`m resricted to buying pre-modded. :)

Cheers.

Shipping to Isle of Man?

I`ve just spent my lunchtime trying to find somewhere I can buy a multiregion Sony RDRHX510S from. RGB looked good, but they deliver to mainland only. Same story with the next two places I tried. All very apologetic, blaming couriers etc, but not much use to me.

Can anyone suggest a retailer that actually delivers players to the `back of beyond` I`m clearly from???

Cheers.

RE: littlest Hobo DVD

Tell you what neal, every stop you make, I`m sure you`ll make a new friend. :D

RE: Arnold Schwarzenegger DVD Box Set

If it`s worth mentioning, this version of Red Sonja is uncut, or at least gorier than the lame PG version that was previously on release on VHS.

Got this box a while back, and seem to recall the picture quality wasn`t great on all 4 films. I`m not techy so can`t comment on that any more, but it might be worth digging out specs on other versions.

If you`ve never seen Red Heat, it`s pretty lame to be honest. I remember watching Raw Deal when it first came out and being unimpressed with that too, but have to admit I haven`t rewatched it after getting this set. Might need to give it another try some time.

Love Total Recall though. Real over the top Verhoeven (sp?) stuff, and Sharon Stone looking her sexiest ever. I ended up nabbing the Mars tin set too. I`m a sucker for gimmicks. :)

RE: littlest Hobo DVD

Gawd, that`s taken me back! Used to love this show. London could WELL kick Lassie`s a*s, and definitely rip Benji a new one.

Chances of it being out on DVD look slim though. Found this site which seems to be set up for running petitions for old TV shows:

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/showinfo.cfm?showID=5039

Don`t know anything about the site but they seem enthusiastic. Might be worth it? Other than that, know any good Canadian retailers? Maybe it`s been released on its home turf.

Oh, and (ahem) "Maybe tomorrow, I`ll finally settle down. Until tomorrow, I`ll just keep movin` on!"

Aw. ;)

RE: Jack Ryan 4 Disc Boxset cheap

Thanks! Class films, and now`s finally the time to upgrade my old CD-I versions! :)

RE: Dum dum de da, dum de dum de da..Man from UNCLE @ 14.99

Thanks for that! I used to love these, so it`ll be great to see them again over the easter holiday.

Cheers!

RE: Play.com sale - what a con

One idea they could take on board is perhaps a loyalty bonus for customers who spend regularly with them.....ie....if you order so many a month or so many a year, then you get a discount off your next order or god forbid.....a free one!

Good idea, and the direct opposite of what they seem to be doing at the moment! I shop with them all the time, but my sister hadn`t used them for months and received a money-off voucher by e-mail. WTF???

Surround headphones

In the market for a pair of good quality (but not overly pricey, I`m not an audiophile, something in the £100-£150 mark?) headphones, possibly surround, but preferably cabled rather than RF or infra-red.

Been trying to find concise reviews on this sort of kit but don`t have much luck. Anyone got any advice? I would potentially also use them for PC gaming.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Cheers.

RE: Which Philips DVD recorder?

OK, thanks again.

I`m now looking at the Panasonics at Techtronics. My problem now is that I have a number of DVD+RW disks. Will the Panasonics play them? Techtronics have a compatability chart that claims it would `usually read` such disks. That sounds a little vague.

Basically, if I record onto a DVD+R using my PC`s HP writer (NOT downloaded movies, incidently), will I be able to play them 100% on the Panasonic?

Sorry if these are basic questions, I`ve yet to see an FAQ that explains these issues succinctly.

Thanks.

RE: Which Philips DVD recorder?

Thanks for the replies. I`ve never been a fan of Philips but when I borrowed the R80 for a couple of days it worked perfectly for 4 disks I created. To follow that I saw a 5-star review of it in one of the magazines (not sure which one). That`s what swayed me towards getting one myself.

Thanks for the recommendation Paull, but I`m on the Isle of Man and we don`t have a Sainsbury`s or most of the big outlets.

Clayts/phelings, which model Panasonic would you recommend? Are we talking the same amount of cash, sub-£300?

Thanks.

Which Philips DVD recorder?

Hi! I`m in the market for a DVD recorder and have heard good things about the R80, and tested one - works great! My question is, as I don`t need the fancy connections for camcorders/digital cameras and stuff and want it just to archive old videos and use as a backup player etc, should I go for the R70 instead? Does the quality of recordings for this cheaper unit match the R80?

Also, are there any other recorders I should be considering?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

RE: Jackie Chan`s "Police Story 3" -subtitled- for only £5.46!

You certainly can`t go wrong at that price. I used to use ddd a lot a couple of years back - although since I`ve been shopping at Yesasia more. When you can get flicks like this and Jet Li`s Tai-Chi Master for just a couple of quid, you can`t say no.

Need to try ddd again, they do seem cheaper these days. Yesasia`s Amazon-ish interface and shopping basket is handy though...

RE: Jackie Chan`s "Police Story 3" -subtitled- for only £5.46!

Think the Deltamac edition is in mono. I haven`t bothered getting this yet - I have a number of Deltamac titles and their quality is underwhelming to say the least. Think a lot of them are laserdisk transfers?

Unfortunately, this is one of those classic movies where you can`t get a decent version anywhere. The Disneyed version is a no-hoper, being edited and dubbed. Doesn`t it even have that terrible US music soundtrack with lots of awful rap, and Tom Jones doing a rendition of `Kung Fu Fighting`? (shudder)

Haven`t kept an eye on the movies that HKL have lined up, but hopefully they`ll get the rights to do this one justice at some point. Anyone heard if that`s the case?

I think the current R2 `Supercop`s are actually Project S (Supercop 2), Yeoh`s character from PS3 in a follow up movie, with a little cameo from Jackie (in drag). Alright if you`re a Yeoh fan, but disappointing if you thought you were getting PS3!

RE: 1st series of legendary "SOAP" (with Billy Crystal) for less than £13!

Good spot. Now I`m going to be humming that dopey theme tune all day! :D

RE: Dark Water WAS £5.00 NOW £2.72 @ dddhouse.com!!!

Dark Water (is it any good?)

Good movie and decent quality disk - if you liked Ring you should love it!

Hero (is it any good?)

Oh yeah! Better than CTHD IMHO. Plus, Maggie Cheung AND Zhang Ziyi! Mmmm.

Good fun, but overlong.

Does anyone else have any recomendations?

Other people have mentioned Full Contact on sale, and if you haven`t seen that one it`s well worth a purchase. Full on Fat action!

Haven`t used DDDhouse for a bit so it sounds like it`s time to check them out again. I seem to remember they were fast and reliable, hopefully that hasn`t changed. I`ve been using Yesasia, great service from them too. They used to work out cheaper than DDD, but maybe not at the moment.

RE: DARK WATER £5.00 (INC P&P)

If you liked Ring you should like this just fine. Similar in that there`s a slow build up of creepiness rather than constant shocks. Probably fair to say there was a touch of `The Shining` in there as well. Personally I preferred it to Ring, although it could have had a more climactic ending.

Got mine from Yesasia a while back - subs are good and the picture is decent enough, and anamorphic IIRC. Think the soundtrack is DTS.

I`ve used DDDhouse a few times and never had a problem with them.

RE: Band Of Brothers for £15

Isle of Man, ordered about midday on 24th, received nothing at all in the post but a fob off e-mail after I prompted them. :(

RE: Band Of Brothers for £15

I ordered mine around midday on the Monday (24th). They`ve told me by e-mail that they`ve `sold out`!?! I`ve replied - mentioning that the item still comes up on their site - but it looks like I`m going to get stiffed. :(

I`d love to hear if anyone who ordered later than me gets their box.

Thanks.

RE: New Avengers DVD Box Set £29.99

Cheers Peter, I`d been on the lookout for that going cheap. :)

RE: Friends Season 7 cheap.....

I had my eye on this from CD-WOW

http://www.cd-wow.com/detail_results_2.php?product_code=2810

I would have presumed this was the same set, but it only says 3 disk? Anyway, the release date is 5th October - may be the same for the EZYDVD set?

BOGOF at dvd.co.uk

Standard MGM stuff really, but there are loads of, er, `timeless classics` that can be snatched for under six quid. Worth a click.

RE: Playstation 2 at Woolworth

While Sony and Microsoft are trying to get one up on each other by dropping prices all over the place, Special Reserve usually have some great bundle deals:

http://ukplaystation2.com/bundle.php

gets you the PS2, an extra official pad, memory card and scart lead, the kind of stuff you need but feel hard of shelling out for separately. £199.99, with the option of adding some of the best games available for reduced prices. Not too bad.

Their X-Box deals include one for the console plus Halo - a fantastic game - for £179.99. Nice!

RE: £900 graphics card for £22 delivered

Oh well, it was worth a try. Well, it WASN`T worth a try because there was no chance of them honouring this, but what the hell. Makes a change to have people grovelling to me after doing the reverse in work all day. :)

RE: Where to buy N64 controllers and accessories cheap ?

Thanks Jeebus. The old Dreamcast sits with my PS2 and X-Box and still holds its own with some class games. Some old favourites here I`d been waiting to get cheap so I`m well chuffed. Cheers!

RE: £900 graphics card for £22 delivered

Nope, but this on their home page:

An Apology
We apologise for the fact that some prices in the PC section of the store were incorrect. Action has been taken to ensure that prices are checked more rigorously. We`d like to thank all of you who contacted us to let us know - we really appreciate it!

Brown-nosers!!! ;)

RE: They live?

"I`m here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I`m all out of bubblegum." :)

Looks like it`s out on R2 at the end of October, with a commentary by Carpenter and Piper. Found it on Encore, but it`s got to be cheaper elsewhere.

RE: £900 graphics card for £22 delivered

What the hell, I`ve given it a shot. Thanks Porky.

Now waiting for the inevitable rebuff. :)
