    Review of Hassena Maan Jaayegi

    2 / 10

    Introduction

A great comedy film that really bring in the belly laughs with witty dialogues and fine comic timing from the cast, which adds to the fine performances seen in this screwball comedy. Kader Khan is perfect as the father and will provide the biggest laughs in this film.

If you want logic in the comedy then don`t expect this film to provide it. A movie directed by David Dhawan means for two and a half hours you have to forget the world we live in. The director provides us with his own world when the police are a perfect establishment, no-one is afraid of the Indian Mafia, where all the ugly guys get the good-looking females, and everyone lives happily ever after.

Its pure escapism at its finest. His work in this film is close to the early works of Indian cinema`s great director`s Manmohan Desai, and Hirishkesh Mukherjee, thought not as good as it lacks some form of moral or purpose of its storytelling. Still it doesn`t mean we can`t enjoy it if it doesn`t have any of those features!

The film has a couple of fine song scores provided by Anu Malik which includes the aptly titled song `What is Mobile Number.` Well I told you there is no logic in the film just pure fun and that is where the film scores big. A film which is India`s equivalent (and improvement) to the British Carry On series.

    Video

The film is presented in its original widescreen framed aspect ratio of 2.35:1. It contains the original picture width that the director intended the audience to see, but it is not anamorphic. The source used for this DVD is quite questionable.

The picture displays signs of film grain and much compression artefacts. Also the overall picture quality is soft, blurring out image detail during certain scenes. There is a high presence of shimmering and moire effects that proves to be rather distracting.

The colour fidelity is very weak and the frame of the picture is filled with brown and yellow hues that lends itself to colour bleeding problems. Finally a lack of contrast and dark detail didn`t help this already awful DVD in terms of quality.

    Audio

The Dolby Digital 5.1 Hindi soundtrack has its problems as it is out of synch by about 3 seconds and thus adds insult to injury. The surround channel effects are late in places which results in the whole audio experience being unpleasant.

This problem really affects the hearing and overall mixing of the sound. Also some light hissing and humming sounds can be heard. A bad 5.1 mix.

    Features

The menus are average in design and are very easy to navigate. While English Subtitles is reasonable, with a few errors in its grammer and on screen timing with dialouges.

    Conclusion

Another awful disc from EROS Multimedia, that is not even worth my two cents. Aviod!
