    Synopsis:
    In a small rural village lives two Thakur families, Thakur Dhanraj Singh (Dillip Tahir) and Thakur Randhir Singh`s (Goga Kapoor). Both Thakur`s have become sworn enemies. Dhanraj, out of anger, shoots Randhir`s younger brother as Dhanraj blamed him for the death of his sister. As a result he was sent to jail. Meanwhile Dhanraj`s family moved to the city of Delhi and began a new life and business, which brought them wealth. Dhanraj Singh`s young son, Raj, misses his father dearly but is raised by his loving uncle (Aloknath).

    Fourteen years later and Raj (Aamir Khan) and his cousin Shyam (Raj Zuthi) completes their studies, while Dhanraj is being released early from prison for good conduct. Raj meets his father and they begin to share a father and son relationship that they had missed out on. The family decides to go and visit Mount Abu and it is while there that Raj meets Rashmi (Juhi Chalwa).

    Both become attracted towards each other and after many situations they fall in love. But Raj learns that Rashmi is the daughter of Randhir Singh, and as a result tries to keep his distance from her. But love cannot separate the two and realizing that the two have a journey ahead of them that will be both testing and hard...
