    Review of Sunfly Karaoke Christmas

    2 / 10

    Introduction

This being karaoke of the low budget kind means that the songs are sung in the style of the original artists while the videos are not necessarily the promo videos of the said artists. Great! What more could I possibly want? How about a Christmas karaoke DVD? Hmmm.

    Video

Presented with a 4:3 fullframe video transfer, the quality is variable since it`s what seems like a lot of stock footage all sewn together. No original singers were used in the making of this DVD. The video footage looks like a literal translation of the original song lyrics; there`s lots of snow and people playing in snow, lots of video transitions of the home video kind, coupled with onscreen lyrics. Wait until you see Wham!`s "Last Christmas".

You do have a choice however of video footage or a blue screen, but neither are particularly appealing. I thought the video footage for Band Aid`s "Do They Know It`s Christmas" was terrible. This is Christmas time, and while I`m aware of the plight in Africa and other countries, do I need downbeat imagery to go with it? No.

    Audio

This has 2-channel stereo sound which is clear but flat sounding. It does serve its purpose though. You can change the audio as it plays so you get a guide vocal should you need some assistance. It works well enough.

    Features

You want more? There`s just a static menu giving access to the songs.

    Conclusion

It`s Christmas, as if you needed reminding. With the festive period in full swing, vast amounts of alcohol are going to be consumed and it`s these places that may have a DVD like this lined up. I like karaoke, I like singing, but this DVD is not very good. It being a seasonal release means it has very limited appeal in the first place, and unless you`re into singing Christmassy songs at other times of the year, I`d say steer clear of this.

Listening to the original artists is a far more rewarding experience, and there`s nothing to stop you singing along with them at full tilt. If you really want to sing karaoke, get yourself a PlayStation 2 and get "Karaoke Revolutions" or wait for Sony`s "Sing".
