    Anime Review Roundup

Last week I wound up taking a second look at Invaders of the Rokujyoma!?, this time on Blu-ray. Sometimes a second viewing offers a chance to re-evaluate a show and get a new perspective. That very rarely happens with a harem rom-com, and this was no exception. The hapless teen male™ protagonist gets a room in a dorm coveted by a variety of otherworldly girls. They were about to fight to death, but the landlady threatens violence if they wreck her property, so they wind up playing a series of games instead to see who will take over the room. It sounds good, but Invaders of the Rokujyoma!? isn’t a show that can hold onto its premise. It’s watchable and fun enough though.

Fuse. What a difference a name change makes! You want this film, you have to go to an actual website and type ‘Fuse’ into a search engine, and hope that the Blu-ray you’re after will appear somewhere in the search listings. The film was released in the US as Fusé: Memoirs of a Huntress; note the accent over the ‘e’ in Fusé, which will at least get you asking questions, while the suffix gives some idea of what the film is about. The initial plan was to release the film as Fusé: Memoirs of a Hunter Girl in the UK, but at the last minute, the e-tailers truncated the title and simply listed the film as Fuse. The end result, it’s taken them almost six years to shift enough of the Collector’s Edition to warrant re-releasing the film on a standard disc.

Maybe that mediocrity of title is warranted though, as the film itself, a tale about a hunter girl moving to the capital during the Tokugawa Shogunate, to hunt dog-human hybrids, doesn’t quite match the sensationalism of its premise. It turns into a somewhat goofy romantic comedy, albeit with some moments of brutality and gore. Here’s my review. Anime Limited released Fuse on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray and standard DVD in 2016. You’ll have your work cut out looking for the CE, but Anime Limited released the standard Blu-ray of Fusé: Memoirs of a Hunter Girl on the 17th of January, 2 weeks ago.

MVM released Invaders of the Rokujyoma!? on Blu-ray and on DVD in 2017.
