Sky email account

Snaps (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 21st June 2023, 16:16

I've had a Sky email account for years as my main account which I've no intention of getting rid of as it's a nice short easy one.
I thought I'd go back and try and install it on Thunderbird which I also used to use way back but Thunderbird's not having it and I seem to remember something about Sky blocking it for some reason.

I don't have Works so Outlook is not an option but does anyone recommend a third party program as I've always found the web based Yahoo clunky as ***k.

why can't you either use the wizard or manually enter settings here?

I can access yahoo mail, my ISP email adress and some others through thunderbird.

Yahoo asks for permission to be granted, but it "should" work.

The settings entered by the wizard seem to be the correct ones so no idea why it won't play.

Yeah, I found that out the hard way around the same time I realised I couldn;t use Mailwasher any more for the same reason.

However, using Thunderbird takes the email off the server and into the program, which used to be fine, but now due to work & my Youtube stuff, I need to access my emails, old & new, over multiple devices. I've just got used to not using in now.

if you use imap you won't have that problem, you probably had it on pop3 and set to download from server, which used to be the default people used.

Tried setting it up on imap way back and again earlier on tonight and it's not playing.
Gone back and checked account activity on the web access and it knows I've tried.

Testing says it can find the settings probing the server but try and click done to set up and I get
'Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong config, username or password.'
The last two are correct as they let me on the web access and the settings I've checked till I'm blue in the face.

I've had to do a lot of messing about with mail recently. My business main email address (administered by BT) will now only work with Outlook, which I'm not a big fan of, so I've set up an entirely new address that I can use with Gmail as my mail client.

Anywho, looking at Sky Yahoo settings:

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server

  • Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port - 993
  • Requires SSL - Yes
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server
  • Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port - 465 or 587
  • Requires SSL - Yes
  • Requires authentication - Yes
Your login info
  • Email address - Your full email address (eman[at]moc.niamod)
  • Password - Generate App Password
  • Requires authentication - Yes

HOWEVER, you may have different server settings with non-Yahoo Sky mail:

Sky.com (Sky Mail) IMAP Server:
  • imap.tools.sky.com
  • IMAP port:                993
  • IMAP security:         SSL / TLS
  • IMAP username:     Your full email address
  • IMAP password:      Your Sky.com password
