Page 1 of Help with email settings please

Hi can anyone tell me what the settings should be for my email , i can recieve an email and reply and the reply will be sent , but not send an email out from scratch . I im using windows 98 with btinternet .any help would be great.fw600vj

OK, well if you can receive mail and send replies to mail that has come in , you settings must be correct

Have you had another email account on the PC which is now inactive (i.e. different ISP)?

If so, and assuming you use Outlook Express, click on Tools>Accounts then on the mail tab-you should see all of the accounts that are on the machine-you can remove any that you no longer used (Though if you are likely to receive mail on your old account(s) leave it as it is), and then click on the bt Internet account and hit `Set As Default` and that should mean that you outgoing message are all sent from this account.

See if that works

Hi Emily i tried the remove any other accounts still nothing . I unchecked both of the boxes for ssl and still nothing .I ended up in another folder to untick the ssl and lo and behold it is now working .I havent a clue how i got into the second folder so if it happens again im snookered. Thanks for your info .fw600vj

aah, right..It`s just that I hadn`t mentioned anything like that in my original post
