Does anyone use the free version of Zone Alarm and would they recommend it?

Yes, been using it for a few years, and it`s top rated by most of the computer mags. People have reported problems with the latest versions, and I had a problem which may or may not have been due to it, so went back to the February version, and have no probs.

You can download the latest version from the site to try if you want, of email me and I`ll send you the Feb version (i`ll have to zip it in case your email rejects exe files). There`s very little difference between recent versions that I can tell. Must be tweaks behind the scenes as nothing has looked any different for a godo while.

Mark. :)

As above ZA works fine and only niggling problems have been from downloading updates. But even here if you always select the "clean install" option other than the other option (modify/repair?) then you shouldn`t encounter any probs. The sygate free firewall has been recommended as an alternative to ZA - haven`t used it myself but then I`m sure they both do the same.
Can I assume you already use the free AVG for anti-virus protection ?

Anti Virus Guard (I beleive), its a free AV product.

If you havent got any AV in place, spyware detectors, then I suspect your PC is riddled with virus & nasty bits of tracking software. A quick search on this site will probably get you the links you need, you had better start downloading ASAP.

I hate ZoneAlarm. Well i did. And i hated it so much i havent used it in about 2-3 years. So it could be great now, but Sygate is so good theres no point in changing.
