Big button remotes with learning or Sky capability

Jimbo :oÞ (Elite Donator) posted this on Monday, 8th July 2013, 15:18

Can anyone help?
I`m ripping my hair out now, tried a few of those "big button" (originally novelty) type ones but none will control a Sky box or newer type TV.

Problem I have is my Mum`s eyesight has gotten to the stage she can`t see the buttons for the TV controls on the Sky remote, two remotes get too confusing so kinda need to combine in one, as Sky does.
Ordered a Sky "accessible" remote (possibly recommended here before) but I`m having the same issues as it isn`t really much bigger than normal.

Don`t need channel change for TV just volume up/down and power on/off, don`t need Sky+ recording/live pause functionality just the basics of the channel numbers and a Sky button.

Either a remote that will do just the above with easy to find, seperate buttons or a remote with learning capability that I can program to do as we need would be fantastic, best I can find is on the NRIB site but only has channel up/down not number entry for her Sky channels.

Any help would be great. There used to be a programmable version of these big button things but can`t find it now.

I have no idea if it's any good, but found this on ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-TEVION-BIG-BUTTON-3-IN1-UNIVERSAL-REMOTE-CONTROL-3-YEAR-WARRANTY-/151060828675?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_Video_RemoteControls&hash=item232bed5203

There are others on there too, just searched for "big button learning remote" and that looked like it had more buttons than others but was still big.

Cheers Rob, first impressions were it might have worked.
Then I saw the "learn" key is too close to another :-/

Then the power key was too close to another etc etc.

What you did do was make me think down a different track, and to that end, today, I got one of my old Sky Rev.5 remotes out, opened the case and scissor chopped the internal rubber pads.
I then took her Revison 8 remote from the old Sky+ box just replaced, opened it and replaced the internal rubber with my now cut down one that only had the needed keys on it.
Cover the internal gap with some cardboard and tape to prevent dirt ingress and the result is a dodgy looking Sky+ remote that only has Sky, TV, Power, Volume up/down and a numeric keypad that is perfect for her use.

Had to use a later revision remote for the TV code but seems all is well for now, only time will tell if this solution has worked but tbh I wouldn`t even have gone down that road without seeing your link first!

Oh, and that didn`t show up for me doing an identical search earlier in the day yesterday! Go figure!

Thanks again ;)
