DVD Player that upgrades quality to HDTV

Gavski (Elite) posted this on Monday, 30th April 2007, 09:01

As it says on the tin.

I`m going to buy an HDTV this week - been investigating for a while and think I have found the one - but I would also like to buy a new dvd player that would uprade the dvd quality when played on the tv. I know Aldi or Lidl did some of these a while ago -

Does anyone have one they could rec or know of an offer? pref hackable too...

:)

I wouldn`t bother with a cheap one.
You`ll get a Samsung or Toshiba player that `upscales` DVD through HDMI for £80ish.
I noticed Blueray (true HD) player prices are tumbling too.
I`m waiting until they come out with recordable blueray at an affordable level.
Maybe they have already, but it`ll be stupid money.

I have heard that sony are not going to release any new playback only bluray in the UK as they cant get it cheap enough and people will just by a PS3. They will release rec bluray instead. Could be a load of balls though.

I don`t see how a DVD player can really "upgrade the quality"; I assume you`re referring to an upscaling DVD player (with HDMI output). It can`t produce extra picture information that wasn`t there in the first place though.
