Sky Digibox Pace 2500S3 is good for what??....

Hi

My uncle has just given me a SkyDigiBox Pace 2500S3. I do not have sky tv or a satellite stuck to the front of the house.

So ,what options do I have?

Can I use it as a Freeview box or do I need a satellite dish?

If I decide to go and get a package off Sky can I use this digibox instead of buying one of theirs or isn`t it just worth it

Cheers

It will only work on (DVB-S) satellite signals - which requires a dish and LNB.
With a dish and LNB (no card needed) it will receive FTA (Free To Air) channels on multiplexes that use symbol rates of 27,500 and 22,000.

If the dish is pointed at 28 degrees east, all the channels shaded in yellow here will be accessible : http://www.lyngsat.com/28east.html

The LNB is the device that fits on the end of the arm which sticks out in front of the dish.

If you are simply hoping to watch the free channels on Astra then in all honesty go for a full system rather than using any Sky box.
The Sky box has an extremely limited tuning range and as such is quite honestly a waste of time.
You can get a full system, fittings, dish 20+ metres of cable, LNB and connectors for around £50-60.
Not only will this allow you to watch the free stuff but you will be able to add channels, Eurosport (German) and a s*** load of other channels which the Sky box will never receive and a load of radio channels.
Have a wee search through Google for cheap complete systems and you will be surprised. I have been using a Comag SL55 , Lidl, for a couple of years now and I am extremely pleased with the system.

Sell the box on eBay - you should get anything from £20 to about £50 for it.

Just for the record, if you were having Sky installed with the intention of having a subsricption package for the minimum period, you would get the equipment and installation for free, so this box would still be redundant to you.

It would be bought from you by someone either wanting to replace their existing faulty box or wanting to add a box in another room to watch free to air channels on.

Charge £10 delivery and make sure you have sufficient packaging to send it safely. Also accurately describe all leads that are with it and whether it has a remote with it. Send it so that it has to be signed for to make sure you don`t get ripped off buy the purchaser.
