Hack code needed for Leiker DVD Player

pueblopedro (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 6th May 2006, 10:46

I have a cheap Leiker brand DVD player I bought in Spain to go in my motorhome.

There isn`t a hack listed in the vast amount of hacks here.

I guess that`s because it`s a "badged something else" - anyone got any ideas or info? - thanks Dave

Fairly certain it`s a Medion Clone - at least, the Leiker DV-X50 is - you didn`t give the model number!

If you go to the Hacks here on DVD Reviewer, Medion are on pages 41-43. There`s a few to try - see how you get on. :)

Thanks for that Sue. I didn`t have the unit to hand, only the instruction manual, (which doesn`t have a model number). I have now been to the motorhome and it`s a DV M55, so I will ceratinly try the Medion. - Dave

OK, found this thread here: 64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&u=http://www.reprodivx.com/viewtopic.php%3Fp%3D11550%2311550&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dleiker%2Bdv%2Bm55%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26safe%3Dactive%26sa%3DG

Seems to mean that you press SET UP followed by "1 3 7 9" to get a secret menu - at the bottom you can change the region from 2 to 0.

Hope that works! :)

So how did it go? It would be handy to have the correct hack posted here for future reference. ;)

OK - first problem: Links from this site are handled through a `frame`, and the translation of the Spanish site didn`t work.

This wasn`t too much of a problem, as I speak a little Spanish - venga bien! ;)

I found the best way to access the secret `menu` is as follows:

1) press eject on remote to open door
2) press again to close
3) when either NDISC on DVD display or No Disc on TV screen appears
4) press SETUP key to display the TV setup menu
5) press 8 8 8 8 slowly and deliberately
6) a `white on black` code or serial number appears UNDER the SETUP menu
7) press 1 3 7 9 (again slowly and deliberately)
8) another screen appears with various details, and at the bottom highlighted in green is

"Region 2"

NOW! - this is where I ran into the proverbial brick wall.

On the Spanish site, it gives two ways to change this:

1) press 0 on the remote, or
2) press the down or back cursor on the remote 3 times (2-1-0 presumably) to change Region 0 or multi-region.

Neither of these work!

I have tried various combinations, including re-entering the 1379 and 8888 codes in different sequences, switching DVD on and off, etc., but to no avail - the Region 2 won`t change. :(

I eventually `cut`n`pasted the link from here into a seperate browser window, to check the translated page in case I was missing something, but I don`t think so. Foiled again!

This is a old situation where the hack is correct, but the firmware has been updated & the keys stated will not make the change on the page.

Mediatek MT1379

Apart from seeking a upgrade\downgrade CD to set the firmware to the hack version, there was a hardware solution knocked up to reflash the chip & setting on the Tevion HT95 near the end of the first link.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

OK Rassilon prepare for your cynicism to be Optomised! 8) 8) 8)

I have cracked it! - I knew my elementary Spanish would come in handy!
(after Sue Brown pointed me in the correct direction)

DV-M55 LEIKER (Mediatek MT1379 CHIPSET)

This is what you do:

1. Turn on DVD
2. Ensure NO DISC Present (cannot access SETUP menu with disc in)
3.On remote press SETUP
4.Press right cursor 3 times [ >>> ]
5.At this menu type 1 3 7 9
6.Grey screen appears with region code 2 displayed
7.Press down cursor 2 times [ v v ] until region code is 0
8.Press SETUP on remote
9.Insert a disc other than region 2 - SMILE!!! :B 8) :D - Sue :x
