LCD Tv - What is good spec?

mib150 (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 1st September 2005, 17:02

Hi all knowing people of the forum

I`m looking at buying an LCD tv, it has a contrast ratio of 800:1 and brightness of 550 cd/m2.

Is this spec any good, cos it`s all foreign to me :-)

The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California, less than 100 were made. My father spent 3 years restoring this car.....it is his love.....it is his passion....."it is his fault he didn`t lock the garage!"

Those are good enough! Most TVs in the market conform to that - however look at the response time too, should be <14 ms - anything over that and you will see a lot of streaking... the lesser, the better. I am told the best response time in the market currently is around 4ms (dont know which TV) but the new Samsung (see other thread) is 8ms which is pretty darn good too

Important,IMO,that you go for one with an `auto aspect ratio` feature, which will switch between widescreen and non-widescreen transmissions (so that the picture always fills the screen).
Some don`t,because they`re glorified computer screens with crap tuners in them.

I can`t stand those features. think that the abilty to display the image in the aspect in which it was created is of far more importance than the ability to distort the image to artificially match the screen proportions.

You must have seen bad ones.
Neither of my JVC TV`s ( LCD and CRT ) distort the picture in any visible way.
In fact, they are barely detectable as different from widescreen transmissions.
No short, fat people or visible bending/stretching at all.
