Best way to go about it is :

SKY digibox : Scart from VCR-out to AV2 on VCR
SKY digibox : Scart from TV-out to AV2 on TV
DVD : Scart from AV1 to AV1 on TV (assuming this is the RGB enabled socket on the telly)

Can you disable Macrovision on your DVD ?

Anyway, if you want to tape off SAT, just set the VCR to record off LINE2 or INPUT2 or AV2.

The other glaringly obvious thing you may have neglected to do is to ensure that you have the old fashioned RF lead between the digibox and the new VCR, and again from the new VCR to the TV (if you didn`t do this you wouldn`t see analogue terrestrial TV, or be able to tape it the same time as watching Sky).

Give it a go and see where you end up. (I have to confess I got a bit lost in the melee of non-punctuation there, Mickey !!!)

How many SCART sockets do you have on your DVD player, Micky ?

The other thought that popped into my head during last night`s mad thunderstorms was that sometimes equipment can interfere with each other - you may be able to tweak the RF output on the Sky box a little.

I bought the same video from Currys on Sunday. My NTL box has a TV and a Video Scart. I connected AV1 on the video to the video scart on the ntl box and AV2 to my nintendo. Cable gets sent to the TV from the TV scart on the ntl box. Cable can be recorded on AV1 (L1) and by selecting L2 I can view (and I assume record) the nintendo, but I have to switch off the ntl to see it as the nintendo doesn`t do scart switching. Press play on the video and I see videos on the TV. So if I had my dvd on AV2 I guess it would work OK like this for me.
Let me know if you want more.

Ah I see, I understand your problem now. You need a seperate connection for both your dvd and sky box to both your TV and video to get around that problem I`m thinking, how many scarts/connections do you have on the TV and DVD?
I was impressed by its playback of pre-recorded and homemade tapes done on other machines, I haven`t tried recording with it yet. I`ll get some s-vhs tapes and let you know what I think.

Watching either while recording the other?
I tried to think it through with my setup tonight, I don`t think it can be set up to do what you want with the connections you have. You should be able to set it up so you can watch dvd while recording cable, fine. If you want to occasionally back up a dvd or two while watching sky I think you`ll need to swap cables around in order to do it, that is if you want digital picture and stereo, otherwise just pick up the RF signal on the tv, as clayts suggested, while legitimately backing up your dvds.

UEFA got in the way of me testing recording in s-vhs, but I`ll post a new s-vhs topic once I`ve done it.
