Panasonic DMR-E50 dvd recorder help

Carep (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 9th February 2004, 14:39

As a new, and generally satisfied, owner of a Panasonic DMR-E50 dvd recorder I have a couple of problems:
1) I cannot figure out how to record from my old VCR. I have followed the manual but no luck. Any ideas?

2) I cannot get a stereo signal through the SKY set top box and the picture has a slight interference. I have changed the Scart without any improvement. help

Other than these issues the machine is an excellent improvement over VCR even long play are good quality and editing facilities are good.

I`ve got a Panny DMR E50 in my set up which is hooked up to among other things, a Sky STB and a VCR. The Sky box is connected from the socket marked VCR Scart to the socket marked AV2 on the DMR E50. I`ve used ribbon Scart cables and had no interference problems at all, likewise sound. As there`s only one input Scart socket on the Panny (AV2), when I want to record from the VCR to DVD for archiving, I use a Scart to phono lead connected from the output Scart on the VCR to the 3 audio/video phono sockets on the front of the Panny. You could use the 3 audio/video sockets on the back if they`re easy to get at of course. The front sockets are AV3 and the rear ones are AV4. If your VCR is S-video capable, then you could use the Din socket at either the front or rear. That is, with a Scart plug to Din plug cable of course. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Scart from AV1 output of the vcr (assuming its nicam, otherwise just use the scart socket on the machine) to AV2 on the E50. Now go into setup (functions on the remote and scroll down to the last category and press enter) select the last category inputs and then make sure the inputs are set to Video, VCRs don`t output RGB signals so you won`t get a picture if this is set. If the video tape is protected by macrovision anticopy technology the E50 won`t record it.
