Vintage Toy Advice

Today must go down in history as a very proud day chaps...

My four year old daughter turned to me this afternoon and asked "will you buy me some Star Wars toys Daddy? I love Star Wars"...
Now, I didn't even know she's seen it! So I replied I don't need to buy you any sweetheart, I have a whole box full in the loft!

We then got the ladder down and went up to the top of the house where I found my tin of figures and box of ships. We looked at them together and played for a little while with the speeder bikes blowing up from the guns on the Slave 1. (I know they never met, but hey she's four)

After she went home I started to look through them properly. Now I couldn't remember what I had, they haven't been out of their tin since around 1990!
I went online to find out some of the names of some of the more obtuse ones I had. To my surprise I found that I had, apparently, an ultra rare last 17 figure, Yak Face. According to Ebay selling between £250 and £1000. I almost choked on my tea.

So what do I do?
Put it away for the future?
Get it graded professionally and sell it?
Sell it without grading?
Use the force?

Is it boxed? I get the impression it isn't.

I'd put it on ebay with a Buy it Now, they seem to be going for less than what you are expecting, but you might still get a taker for £250 if it's in good condition and you take lots of photos of it.

They could possibly be worth more in the future, but maybe now is a good time to sell with a lot of people in their 40s+ collecting them. The level of interest could die off as fans who grew up with these figures also die off.

Rare is a relative term, there seems to be lots of them (discounting reproductions) regularly turning up on ebay from a quick search, so who knows how many are still out there.

Just remember if you do sell it, to get the appropriate level of insurance when posting.

Grading does seem to increase the value a bit, but I can't easily tell by how much and if it isn't offset by the cost of grading it. If I were you I'd list it without on a buy it now first, and only consider grading if nobody is interested in your auction.

Was heavily into the vintage toy scene - namely Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica.
yes the last 17 do collect the most money - however they are not as rare as you think - it's all down the the condition of the figure - if it has it's accessories etc.

Have a look on here - friendly bunch.

If you have a vinyl caped jawa - now that is worth a nice pound or two!

I'm in agreement.

I didn't know I had it so whatever I get for it is a bonus.
I had been checking the Bay of E and it's very hard to judge just what it's worth.

Thankfully it's in A1 condition as I never really played with that one when I was younger (as how many times can you recreate the sand pit scene?)
Also it's been removed from the ones the daughter can play with to stem any damage.

I'll put it up for a silly amount of money and see what happens. Does any one know any Americans easily parted with their money? :)

I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which i`m dying are the best i`ve ever had.

that book, and the "sequel" are great. Every now and again I think I should go up in my parents loft and sell it all ready for the girls' future. just the other dad my dad was saying he may go to a local model train shop to see what Hornby train stuff is worth and sell it, as that's just been in their loft for years, and I'm not likely to want it for the girls, they enjoy playing with toy cars but we really haven't got the room to build a train set, unless we get a loft conversion, which we could only afford if we sell the contents of my parents' loft ;)
