Page 1 of I'm doing Walk the Wight 2015
General Forum
So not quite the iron man thing some people round here can manage, but I'm doing a 14 mile walk across a not-very-flat island for the Hospice on the island (which looks after people who are ill and dying), so if anyone fancies throwing a few pence their way, here is the page:

If that doesn't kill me, I might try the full thing next year.

Good luck with that! Hope the weather is kind to you.
Take it easy when you do the walk, we do not want you needing that Hospice after your finished
And well done on your efforts for charity
I just stick with handing DVDs into charity shops, and buying other ones from there (just got a collectors edition of Star Trek The Next Gen, the first two episodes.... Encounter at far point. Been looking for that)
when I was a kid, every year a group of us would get the ferry from Lymington to Yarmouth, walk down to Freshwater, up Tennyson down, along past Alum bay, the Needles etc, and along the coast back to Yarmouth. that was a good day out, when the weather was nice, not so much fun being up the top of Tennyson down when it's wet and windy!

My camera is very heavy, I'm going to leave it behind this first time until I know how hard this is! Plus although the body is weatherproof, my lenses aren't, another "maybe next year" thing. ;)

Thank you for all your support! I raised about £150 in the end.
Really ache, the last 4 miles were tough, my legs were painful, some duck walking was definitely intermittently happening. I'm glad I left my camera, and dumped the poncho (no rain forecast) and the spare change, the last thing at the end I'd have wanted would be extra weight.
I forgot to turn on my GPS logger for the first few miles annoyingly (should have flicked the switch as I left the house :(, but I forgot to do that too tbh)
Anyway, 14 miles in roughly 4 hours 14 minutes. I think if I'd have not been with a some fast walkers I'd have gone a lot slower, but no idea if I'd have hurt less at the end. :)
Next year I might do the whole 26, but I'm definitely going to need to either use somebody elses legs or make mine a bit stronger. Absolutely no way I could have done it this year.
Didn't realise how big the event was, so many people doing it, and helicopters, planes, photographers.
