David Cameron and the televised debates

pat-w (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 5th March 2015, 01:12

So, ten Downing Street has released a statement saying the prime minister will only take part in one televised debate with the 6 other party leaders.
What an act of utter cowardice. The only reason he's wants 6 other people there is because with each one given equal time to answer each question there will probably only be time for five or six questions. Gutless, spineless coward!
He's spent 5 years blaming everything on the last government, but never steps up when he has failed on his previous promises, like cutting immigration numbers. I don't like any of the current crop of politicians, but "call me Dave" has really pi++ed me off with this (latest) spineless act.
I really wish we had a "none of the above" option on the ballot paper because right now I don't want any of them to win!

But the last government royally f***ed the country up with regards to the economy, immigration, fake wars etc. It's pretty much the same as what happened after Obama took office in the US. Dubya screwed the US over so badly, it's going to take more than one term to put the country to rights - despite the morons on Fox expecting him to have a magic wand he can wave to fix everything.

When 'Call me Dave' says things are taking longer to correct 'because of the mistakes of the last government', that's a pretty accurate explanation.

I'm no Tory, never have been. Normally I vote LibDem, but I won't again until that spineless, two-faced twat Clegg steps down. I'm old enough and wise enough to look at the grander picture and realise that every so often, you have to take one for the team for the greater good. Things are getting better. Very, very slowly, because David Cameron and his party, as much as saying it makes the bile rise to the back of my throat, are the right people for the job - for the moment. And unless the people of the UK actually take the time to look at the numbers and vote with their heads, not their hearts, we'll end up with Farage, and then we'll all be f***ed

I need a shower

I think the last debates ended up making absolutely no difference to the final results? They appeared to make a huge surge for the libdems which didn't turn into votes.

With the following riders I find myself mostly agreeing with Pete-MK.

Any improvement is/will be from the top down so the Caviar will be served before the Cod and Chips. Wanting Cameron to remain in situ is as much for continuity, wrenching the country round in a different direction is not a good idea IMO.
I'm nowhere near as down on Clegg as most. Once he went into an alliance with anybody it was going to p*ss off one half of the country and all he could ever do was try and act as a restraining influence. Total prat for the uni fees though.

I'm afraid the country, or a fair slice of it, will get their wishes and Farage is going to end up with some kind of say in the next Govt. Which could mean we will all be royally f**ked for the forseeable future.

Extra: Through my door the other day, full colour, three sided A4 foldout, glossy and expensive on my Labour MP, Luciana Berger.
Oh hallo, thinks I, haven't seen hide nor hair of you for the best part of 4 years I wonder what you could want.

Apparently she's quite a popular hate figure amongst neo-nazis and white supremacists. There are worse groups to be hated by I think. :)

Personally I'm with Pat W on it. Cameron might look the part, but he is an incompetent statesman. I find it laughable how he is running scared of the TV debates, and this is clearly because he is a bad tempered, poorly formed politician. Keeping the Tories in place is the worst result imho. We didn't ask for them last time, which is a fact a lot of voters seem to have had erased from memory.

And yet it's Milliband who gets the media ire. Every angle they can take to make him look a fool is explored to the full. Eating a sandwich, scratching his arse - whatever can be done to make him look daft they've done it. Now I'm not a massive Labour fan at all - we keep voting for them in Sheffield and I am unconvinced that keeping these people in comfy positions is really helping the city. But as a politician, sorry but Milliband constantly tears Cameron apart. Simply put he is a better statesman. But he isn't a popstar pin-up statesman. He has a big nose!

Keeping Tories in - not an option if you have any care for equality in society. They can keep hammering the old "Labour messed up the country!" tack, but they said they were in place to fix it and they haven't. And last time I looked it was a global meltdown, not uniquely a UK one.

We seem to be watching different debates.

It's well known that tv debates don't help the incumbent but give a leg up to opposition so that's why Cameron is reluctant. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas so I don't blame him for that. But he has handled the situation badly and does look like he is running scared.

I'm not a tory supporter but I'm unimpressed with labour. Their latest tuition fee cut idea is looking like an own goal.

Should do what HIGNFY did when Roy Hattersley didn't show up. Replace Cameron with a tub of lard for the debates, although it won't be as greasy.

Plus it's yet another idea borrowed from the states that we don't need. Can you honestly see any coherent points being clearly put across with 7 egoes shouting at each other for 90 minutes?

Also, i'm not sure why Milliband wants a head-to-head with Cameron, last I saw, labour weren't exactly biting at the Tories' heels. He's not that important. Or influential.
