Will a small parcel arrive if posted in letterbox without a stamp ?

Its one of those unanswered questions we all want to know after the event.

Take my example....

I found someones plastic work badge lying on the pavement yesterday in Croyden.

It had the companies address on it, so before I posted it off, I stuck it in a windowed envelope so the post office employee could see what it was.

I did not put on a stamp, but said `to be paid by the company` where a stamp should usually go. Then i stuck it in my local post box.

Will it ever arrive ?

My wife says it will just be binned at the sorting office, I think otherwise, and it will get back to the company, but will have to be paid for.

What is the post office`s official directive on parcels with no stamp ?

it stands to reason that it should. If you find a credit/debit card on the floor, you`re to pop it in the nearest postbox and they`re duty bound to deliver it. The fact that you`ve given them the address (even if they have to give the envelope a shake to see it), and a promise of payment. The company itself might not be too chuffed you didn`t deliver it in person, thus saving them a hefty postage fee, but by all intents and purposes, it should reach them.

It should be delivered. Had you put your address on the rear of the envelope it would be returned to you but as it appears you have not done so the recipient will pay the cost and a surcharge. Probably about twice the normal postage rate I think :D

The postman delivered an insufficient postage card to me a few weeks back , I had a small package sent to me but the stamp had came off ( didn`t just fall off due to being insecure , you could see the damage on the paper envelope where the stamp was once attached).

I had to take the card to the sorting office and pay the 47 pence postage and a £1 surchage then they handed the package to me.

The annoying part was the sender had posted it at a post office counter using proof of posting so there was a stamp on it initially but it came off while in the care of Royal Mail yet I had to pay another lot of postage and the surcharge to get my mail.

I think it should get there...we often used to get insufficient postage thingies at my old job...whether or not the company pay the surcharge etc is another matter altogether. My place used to bin anything like that without collecting it, as it was usually dudes complaining and refusing to pay postage!

No attempt will be made to deliver it as Postmen don`t handle cash at all, but the insufficient postage card should be delivered, so then it is up to the reciprient to go to the sorting office and pay to receive the packet.

The only reason that wouldn`t happen is if some lazy postman can`t be bothered. There are some, we all know that, but they are breaking the rules.
