Help with After sales

Hi guys, in March 2004 I have bought a 17" TFT screen Video7 (from ebuyer). It came with a 3 years warranty (collect and return). In November last year (28) the screen went blank. So I called first ebuyer whom told me that they were covering the screen for only the first year. So they told me to get in touch with Video7. I did that and in fact it is another company that deal with the aftersales. It is a German company called rts.services.de. After numerous phone call (i won`t go into details but lets say that I lost my cool with them a few times), i managed to get the screen collected, that was January 10, 2007. The screen was sent to a British company called Repair Tech. The screen is back today, and guess what it does not work, still a blank screen. What shall I do next? I am more than fed up with this piece of crap. I had to buy another screen as i could not wait for it to be repaired. I ask them to replace the screen by an equivalent product but they have refused. Any advice would be good.
I was thinking to contact Watchdog on the BBC.
Thanks

Hi Mark, with all due respect, I dont think that ebuyer did something wrong there, as they cover the screen for the first year and this happened 2 years and a few months after purchase. I think it is more down to Video7 to get that right.
Thanks guys
JC

I thought it was down to the seller to honour maufacturers warranty.

Sounds like euyer are sirking their responsibilities

eBuyer are correct in what they are saying, as I work in retail and any extended warranties over the standard year DO have to go through the manufacturer themselves. However, I would definently expose this comedy company Video7, as they sound very similar to an incident I had dealing with a company, called RGB Direct last year who really p****d me off and I regret not taking things further then.

By the way, NEVER use RGB Direct if you hadn`t have guessed, as their aftersales are appauling!

In the UK, most electrical equipment comes with a 12 month Retail warranty, for which you deal with the retailer. After that, any extended Manufacturer`s warranty must be dealt with through the manufacturer (the clue is in the name of the warranty! ;) )

After sales service is what really matters with manufacturers and I think the vast majority really don`t want to know. I have never heard of Video7, but this thread shows why sticking with big names can be important. What use is a 3 year warranty if you can`t get anyone to honour it? >:(

Get back on the phone and create hell! Get an address and write to their head office complaining. Kick up a stink. I don`t hold out much hope with Watchdog - I have contacted them several times in the past and never even had a response from them.

My understanding is that the responsibility lies with the seller (eBuyer). The contract exists solely between the purchaser and the seller. The manufacturer was not a party to the original sale contract. eBuyer may have included `3 year manufacturers warranty` within the offer of sale, but that does not oblige the manufacturer to provide it. The responsibility still lies with eBuyer. They have sold goods on the understanding that they have a 3 year warranty, they may be expecting the manufacturer to resolve the problem directly with you but if the manufacturer fails to do this then the responsibility still lies with eBuyer.

That is my view on this, don`t we have a resident consumer law expert?
