not quite true... its BMW parts... anyway technically any items taken from the beach belong to the salvage company, so if you are tempted you could get a knock on the door from me or julianf as it will be `THEFT`

the only way you may be able to keep the items you `salvage` is to declare them to `receiver of wrecks` or you could be prosecuted, up to £2000 fine!

Nope, WHOLE motorbikes (okay, maybe the odd wing mirror missing).

Good luck with trying to register them to use on the roads...

I understand it that you claim salvage rights yourself and can claim storage to the master of wrecks (great title), its only theft if you dont declair itor refuse to return the said booty?

Goodluck to them lol they have been doing ofr hundreds of years :o

I read that Police were handing out leaflets on the beach advising people that it was an offence to take anything that was considered salvage from the wreckage.

Why didn`t they just arrest them? Everyone was helping themselves (have been constantly by the sounds of it)

If you register that you`ve had it away with a motorbike (someone got a Land Rover apparently) and then the shipping company decide it`s not worth their while retrieving the item, you`re laughing. If you don`t register it you could have problems. I`d register it. You`re quite likely to keep it anyway.

The BBC WEB PAGE HERE , actually shows a BMW bike, being pushed on the shingles.
Quote:
Hiding the goods and not giving them back is a criminal offence, with a possible fine of up to £2,500 per offence. Plus, the hot-fingered beach-comber, would waive their right to a salvage award, and have to pay the owner twice the good`s value: "In the case of a BMW motorbike, it could be quite expensive".
.......
Quote:
If people take the cargo, they fill in a "report of wreck and salvage" form, with their contact details, what they found, where and when. "It`s available from pretty much anybody in uniform down on the beach"......

A reward to the finder could be offered, depending on the value of the goods, the condition they are in after rescue, and the effort involved in recovering them from the beach. Wheeling something home, ... is "not classed as a huge amount of effort". .Warnings that chemicals such as battery acid, pesticide and oily liquids have also washed up...

Update: Just read (2100 hrs) Quote:
"Around 50 BMW motorbikes were carried off the beach last night,"
:o

I always thought is was theft & was amazed the Police didn`t cordon off the area. After all if someone gets hurt they`ll claim compensation from the Police etc because they wern`t stopped, you know the way people are nowadays.
