What earphones do you use in your iPod / MP3 player?

julianf (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 30th October 2005, 11:20

My iPod Mini`s standard earphones are starting to play up a little bit - any recommendations/ones-to-avoid for in-ear type earphones...?

EDIT: Having had a quick glance online I better add that I don`t want to spend much more than £20-£25...so these are out :D

Thanks

julianf

I`m a big fan of these:

Although they`re much cheaper in the US than they are in the UK

I use these but I suppose it depends on the size and shape of your ears as to which earphones will be comfortable and not fall out!

i tried the sony MDR-EX71SL & tbh i thought they sounded really tinny & to quite, i ended up buing the cheapest sony ones that i could find (argos £7.99p) & they sound much better, so good i ended up using them permanently, i`ve also used the mega bas ones that wossaname linked to, & if you have large ear cannals (like me) then they are exellent, but i know a few people that don`t find them confortable. but it`s down to personall preference, i like loads of Clear bass & they need to be extremely Loud, in fact i only used my i-pod headphones for about 3 minutes, :¦ before deciding i absolutely needed to change them.

if your gonna spend £20 or more i`d deffo try before you buy, i got the MDR-EX71SL from amazon & was very disapointed with them, the sound quality is fine but very little bass & far to quite for me :( £25 wasted (tho i have mates that liked em)

these are outer-ear and closed back, and, at about 150gbp, quite a bit over your budget, but theyre well worth it.

if you are gonna buy `bins` type `phones, get these... even if you only wanted to spend 25 pound, but have to pay that every 5 months-odd when the cheap things break.... these will save you money in the long run. you could drive over-em with a land rover, and they`d be ok (well not quite ;)....), the cable is nice and short (and replaceable like every other part on the thing) and screwed dead to the left cup, so you dont have to worry about pulling the wires out of there contacts. This will NOT happen. You can drive these headphones as loud as you like as long as you like. They will NOT distort or blow up. Sound is crystal clear (if just slightly bass-heavy)

Just something to think about. I swear by `em.

They will drain the battery quicker than your standard in ear though.

Ive got the same ones as milesR and they rawk. They take a bit of getting used to as if you dont make a perfect seal with the silicon plug they sound really thin. But when you get the hang of it, pounds for sound, they are the best headphones ive had. The bass they can generate is shocking for the size. They even do them in white for you Ipod lovers.

Speaking of which, if you have spent that much money on a media player, you owe it to yourself to buy some new headphones, because the generic Ipod ones are complete arse.

But then generics are. I bought a Rio Karma (excellent player) but they came with the s***test pair of sennheiser Ive ever heard. I thought the player was bust at first, because I didnt imagine a pair of sennheiser could sound so crappy.

The right earphone on my pair has given up the ghost and only works intermittently; I am after a pair of asymmetrical (cabled) earphones but am having trouble finding out which ones are Y-shaped and which are asymmetric. The Sennheiser MX350 are asymmetrical but I don`t know what they`re like; can anyone recommend a simple pair of in-ear asymmetrical `phones?
