I have been messing around trying to record dvd`s and so far i have managed Lethal weapon 2,blade and u571.
the picture is good but the sound in could be a lot better, but when i mess
around with the sound setting`s it`s acceptable.

This one`s for Clayts. When recording should i have dolby surround sound during playback if it`s before i record.

I`m not Clayts, but the answer is "yes, if you have a stereo VCR".

As for the Macrovision question - not all DVDs carry the Macrovision flag, but the majority of "big name" ones do. It`s possible that your VCR just isn`t particularly sensitive to the Macrovision signal.

Well Mike `faster than a speeding bullet` G got there before me. Even though it won`t record your DVDs onto VCR in brilliant 5.1 surround sound, it will `down-mix` it to the next source, in your case Dolby ProLogic, as you have a NICAM VCR.

I think EIV`s discs generally don`t have it. Maybe the cheapskates can`t afford the licensing fees ;-)
