Don`t go overboard on SCARTs. You can get nice quality shielded cables for about £10-£15.

You may feel it`s worth spending more if you have high-end equipment, but to me £40-£50 for an IXOS SCART is way over the top - that`s nearly a third of the cost of my DVD player!

Also, isn`t it the case that gold SCARTs will give *worse* results unless the SCART connectors on your equipment are also gold?

I don`t have a what you call a high end DVD player, I don`t think it`s even decent in DVD terms but for me it does everything I want it to do, Multi region, NTSC.

But I do have a decent HiFi, not a surround sound one but a stereo one. The interconnector between the CD player to the Amp cost £240 yes it`s two hundred and forty pounds, it`s not a typo (I also have 2 other ones costing £30 each and Speaker cable is £75 plus £70 for stands). And I think it`s justify because the CD player deserve that kind of cable. I think I have spend more on cable and speaker stands here than most people have spend on their DVD players but you are right that may be buying the IXOS Scart cable for the wharfedale is over the top but if it`s can bring improvement than I am willing to make the jump.

DON`T buy gold plated scart leads, for the money you will pay extra they are not worth it. I have a friend who is a professional sound system fitter and he says they are not worth it. Don`t buy really cheap ones either or end bits come away from the cable!!!

The gold is now where near as important as the shielding, I have a 35 quid IXOS Gold 126 scart and trust me it isnt any real better then a 20 quid one such as a prowire.......

The Ixos cables look good but are bulit like a battle ship and the cable is very thick, heavy and tight so watch out if you get one as they are like to fall or spring out of the socket.
