I think everyone had a Quickshot II

I used a RAM Turbo, which didn't add RAM, and didn't speed anything up, but it did have a reset button, which was useful on the old rubber keys. and it did have a cartridge slot, for the ten cartridges that were released, but more importantly, it gave you the gamut of joystick interface options, Kempston, Protek, Cursor, and Sinclair.

so unboxed, was going to have a fiddle tonight, unfortunately the joystick box had 5 double jewel case games, including fm2 so not a disaster, the +2 has power but no cable to connect to tv so not sure which I need and there was a power cord left over which I have no clue what its for

If you’re connecting to an old CRT, then look for a simple aerial cable. The TV side one will look like a normal aerial plug, the Speccy side one will have a pin coming out of the middle.

RGB is more complicated as there are two plus 2s, the +2 and the +2A. The latter will have +3 Basic listed in the Start Up Menu. They both use different wiring for their RGB connections.

So finally got it up and running, 1st game I tried Dictator didn't work so gutted and thinking is any of it going to work, then I loaded Election :)

Seeing this thread pop up again, reminded me of a Radio Four (or as my children call it Grandad FM) programme I was listening to this week.

They were talking about Commodore, and how they really were the first home computer for games, how they really dominated the market, but then just disappeared, how there were was a real market offering options.

I seem to remember friends who were in the Sinclair camp, ZX80, ZX81 and then the Spectrum, whilst others were very much the Commodore first the Vic-20, then a quantum leap in technology with the C-64, the graphics and sound on this being far superior (IMHO).

There was the ubiquitous BBC Model B, available in a bunch of maybe six, in the school computer rooms, and then the Amstrad and early Apple and IBM which were more geared for business.

Me I loved the Texas Instruments TI-99, perhaps it was because of the cartridge loading option, like the games consoles from Atari, it seemed to bring that instant gratification of gaming, instead of waiting for an age for tape to load, only to find you had to do it again, as the tape just got caught up and twisted, or worse snapped.  I did eventually dabble in Speccy +2 (inbuilt tape) and +3 (in built floppy disc) consoles...

You really could back then go into the corner shop, who had a handful of tapes/games, and pick them up for pocket money prices, circa £1.99, perhaps saving a couple of weeks to buy it, or buying with a bestie.

oh' dear god, I now feel old, I need a cup of Horlicks and quiet room for an afternoon nap now!

yeh, those Mastertronic games, and later Codemasters games for 1.99 or the premium 2.99 games, rather than 9.99 tape or 12.99 disc for my Amstrad.

some  of those games were crap, but then real gems like the Dizzy games, and later on the expensive games came out as budget games a while after release :)

I don't think I've ever played that!

I seem to vaguely remember people having some success with those tape adapters for cars (from years ago) that let you plug in a portable CD player and it was a cassette shell that just blasted the sound at the tape heads via it's own tape head.

I think the +3 has the 3.5mm jack split between in and out, but I think you need to mod the +2 for that.

well games are loading but not getting any sound unfortunately , not a huge loss with the games I like but would like it anyway
